Anyone know what this tv's native resolution is? The box says 480p/720p/1080i which makes no sense. Help!

Ae you talking about the SlimFit CRT (tube) TV's?

CRT's do not have a native resolution as they are not fixed pixel displays. Typically HD CRT's take whatever the incoming signal format is (480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i) and scale everything to 1080i for display.

In a sense, the native resolution could therefore be considered to be 1920 x 1080, however there are no consumer CRT's capable of displaying that many pixels due to the pitch fineness of the phosphor dots on the screen and the shadow mask.

While CRT's have a great picture, with excellent black levels, wide contrast range and vibrant colors, ultimate resolution is not their forte.

Ah thanks for the info...

The reason I'm asking is games in 480i tend to have some lag (ps2, gcn). I assume running them through a component cable would fix the lag?

It depends on the delay through the video processor, but unless you are using Component Video or HDMI, you aren't seeing an HD picture.

Composite Video and S-Video are terrible compared to Component or HDMI.

I have two of these TVs, there is ZERO lag. Always calibrates to 0ms on GH2.

I played Halo 2 on regular Xbox 180 on this with component cables on this TV for a couple years, it was perfect.

i know i have one of these tvs and best buyts website at the time told me that the native resolution on the product was 800 lines... ive never heard of that. The 50 dollar upgrade at the time had natove 1920x1080. unfortunately this was several years ago before i knew what any of that meant. But luckily (aside from some geometry issues) it has a crystal clear picture with vibrant colors and the blackest blacks.

The Samsung CRTs have two native resolutions: 1080i and 480p. they deinterlace 480i SDTV inputs to 480p, and upscale 720p inputs to 1080i.
