My Dish Receiver Is Updating All The Time

HI all,

Sometimes when I'm surfing the channels, Announcement 330 appears and tells me it's updating the info. Sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. Is this normal? Why can't it update in the background without freezing the receiver. At times I get frustrated when it takes 10 - 20 minutes and I shut the receiver off and wait a minute or two. When I restart it, it acts normal again and lets me surf without the dreaded 'updating info announcement' coming on. By the way, theres no landline hooked up to it and the receiver is the HD one-hookup unit.

That is definitely not normal. Call Dish, explain the problem and have them replace the unit for you.

Are you turning it off at night?

Yes, I turn the unit off at night.

Is this a 622/722 or a 211/222/411?

The non DVR Dish receivers have very little program guide info in them at a time, usually never much more than 24 hours, so if you try to look ahead to tomorrow or the next day, you get the guide updates.
