Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I have searched to forum to no avail...
I have both the VIP 622 and VIP 322 tuners. I also have a Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD recorder and a Toshiba VCR. The 622 IR blaster will control the VCR just fine - so it is very easy to record this way, using the onscreen Dish Network guide. As simple as using a DVR! However the VCR quality is, well, VCR, and I hate having to rewind and forward through videotape!
I want this same simplicity with the DVD recorder; I don't want to have to separately program the DVD recorder in addition to the Dish Network receiver. Unfortunately I have had no luck getting either tuners' IR blaster to control the DVD recorder. I have called Dish Network twice and neither time could they help me (in fact one guy in technical support did not seem to even know the tuner had an IR blaster!)
Can anybody add insight to my dilemma? Is this possible or must I choose between sub-par videotape quality or shell out the bucks for a DVR? And by the way, you cannot input the DVD codes in the manual to the VCR IR blaster screen - it gives you an invalid code message.
