UT3 on PS3

I've got a keyboard and mouse hooked up and I've got to say that this is quite possibly the best FPS fragfest I've played in a long time. They took the great PC elements and brought all of it over to PS3 so I can use my bigscreen tv and stereo. This was what I was hoping warhawk would turn out to be. Where warhawk felt like a vehicle shooter with a FPS mode to get you between vehicles, UT feels like a full on FPS game with some incredible vehicle play.

I just downloaded some mutators for it and put them on a thumb drive. The PS3 just grabbed them and installed them in about a minute. As far as I can tell the mutators/maps/mods are all platform unspecific. The mutators I used were listed for the PC version but I'll be damned if they didnt work. That opens up the console version to user generated mods which is awesome. There's a way you can browse the web from the PS3 and install mods right through the browser but I'm unsure how to do it yet. I posted on several forums last night using the PS3 browser in conjunction with the keyboard and mouse and I have to say its a very nice package. While it wont replace a PC it works great for what it is.

Theres also a ton of multiplayer maps in it from the start. I hear my roommate griping about that when playing with Halo 3. I had really been holding off buying any of the multiplatform games until I get a 360 since theyre generally better on that side but I have to say this is a must own for anyone who grew up on Quake, TeamFortress, Rocket Arena or the original UT. If future shooters carry over this well with the keyboard and mouse support I think the 360 will get a run for its money on shooters.

At this point the only games I own or for that matter, think are worth owning, for the PS3 are UT3 and ratchet and clank. I didnt care for uncharted very much but I havent played more than a few minutes of the demo. As far as I know the 360 doesnt support a keyboard and mouse so if you have the two consoles this is a definate PS3 buy. For everything else thusfar, get it on 360.

LHD, do you know how the game plays using a ps3 controller? I have never been a big pc gamer so using a keyboard and mouse isn't up my alley. Two more ?
Is there a difference in speed and control between the two?
Can you play co-op multiplayer online? I was a bit bummed when I bought the orange box and only one person can play team fortress at a time.

I'm horrible with controller FPS's. My roommate said its very close to the controls of orange box-360.

I only have 1 controller and the keyboard and mouse only augments the sixaxis/dualshock at this point. You can still use them to browse the menus but you get hung up on a couple button combos.

Well I just finished playing it and yes you can use a keyboard and mouse. The bad thing is that they are way too sensitive. I would try to turn a corner and it would turn with the mouse and go up so I couldn't see. The controls even with a keyboard an mouse were shit. I'm so glad I got the pc version. Graphically it was just as good as the PC version even though it's 720p I do have a 22" monitor hooked up to 512MB video card!! So if you dont mind using the controller I would say definitely get this game if you wanted to use a keyboard and mouse do not even bother.

I never had a problem using the keyboard and mouse on it. You can adjust the sensitivity of the mouse to fit what you want for response. Just keep trying different settings until you find whats right for you to play with.

Maybe that was the problem. I know it's alot smoother on the pc. I bought it for the pc I just wanted to see if it was any different for the PS3 and it's not except for the controls. I'll give that a try and post back. Thanks.

I tried it the other day and it works much better with the inversion turned off and the sensitivity turned all the way down. It does still run better on my Pc though since Idont really have a hard surface to put the mouse on since my PS3 is in the bedroom. I'll say this though it's just as good as the pc version and the graphics are exactly the same.

I already had ventrillo setup for the rest of my gaming and found some UT PS3 servers which were pretty cool. 6 of us pretty well wiped out the other team 40 to 10 or something rediculous like that. I do like ventrillo, even more so than XBL in certain circumstances.

I"ve had this pc that I"m playing UT3 on for 3 years now it works prefectly fine. I've got a P4 3.0 1gb ram and a 512mb video card. I dont not have any problem with playing UT3. I only paid 1200 for my machine since I custom built it. I do not go with the main stream companies to get a gaming pc since they are way too much. When I bought this one I looked on dell.com and I would have paid a bout $2000 for it and that didn't even come with the hyper ddr ram. So pretty much if you know what your doing and you custom build it wont be as much as if you were to go to dell,gateway,hp or any other pc at best buy or circuit city.

As for what Cygnus said damn right Descent kicked ass. I even remember how I had those controls I would use the asdf for straffing and the number keypad to go forward back pitch up down left ring and enter to shoot ha ha ha!! Too bad they couldn't come out with descent now imagine how good it would look.

well 1200 is still more then a 360 my friend...and i know you are not running the game with a the bells & whisles..hell my rig is better then that and the demo runs like shit....hell i can even play on my 60 inch sony sxrd and not a 17or 23 inck monitor...

That's a demo the game runs perfectly fine on mine that's why it's a demo and not the full program. Oh have fun enjoying the game in MAY WHEN IT COMES OUT FOR THE 360!! At least I can play it now!!

The better version is already out on PC. It seems that the 360 version is relegated to gamepad control only, which may be fine for you but you're truly missing out on the real gaming experience.

Honestly if there was any game the PS3 was more appropriately setup for from the beginning, it was this. Until the 360 gets KB/M support you'll not see the same level of gameplay ferocity.
