I live in Los Angeles, in a two story apartment. I recently cancelled Dish because I wanted all the HD channels that D'TV offers. Anyway, Dish said they were going to send me boxes so that I could return the receivers. 3 Weeks later I finally receive ONE box with instructions that stated that not only must the receivers be sent back, but I must also send back the LNB that is attached to the dish, on the rooftop of my apt! I was also told that if this part was not sent back I would be charged $149. I then asked the rep how he expected me to get on the roof and retrieve the part. In true outsourced customer service fashion I got a blanket response of "other customers send in their LNB's." That's great. I then ask if they can send someone out to go on the roof and retrieve the LNB and I was told that they would have to charge me $99 for that service. By the end of the call I was so frustrated and the resolution from the rep was that If I were in fact charged for the LNB, that I could call back and they would waive the fee. Yea, can't wait for that phone call. So honestly, this post isn't meant to hate on Dish as I did enjoy their service for many years, but I thought I should at least let you know what to expect if you DO cancel your subscription. Oh yeah, the second box is "on its way."

Good post. In a way, I understand where dish is coming from, those LMBs are somewhat expensive and they can be reused, just like the box. But, on the other hand, it is amazingly inconvenient to climb up on the roof to get them. I hope the rep was right, and noted on your account that you can call back for a credit

$149 if you don't send back the LNB?!?! Geez that's a rip off, you can get 2 of those for $120 on Craigs List. Anyway you will be much better off with Direct TV. I just switched over about a month ago and I love it! I don't know how I went without HDTV as long as I did!

I didn't have HD on my account with Dish. When I decided I wanted HD I looked at both companies and chose DTV for 2 simple reasons...
1. More HD Channels
2. Less Money

Mine was. When I upgraded to HD with Direct, they gave me a free HD DVR.
