SciFi HD is starting to show much more HD programs, including movies and series (such as Nip Tuck). USA HD does a good job at showing the true HD versions of repeat series such as Law and Order. Good thing is that neither of them use Stretch-O-Vision. If you like these two stations in SD, then you will love the HD version.

I hope its true but I havent seen it anywhere

If it is true why doesn't dish inform current customers of the new additions?

They never tell us though until its up

That kind of sucks. When I had comcast they use to always send a flyer in the mail informing customers of new channels coming out.

Yeah, that strech-o-vision really is a pain! It's kinda worthless HD program IMO! Ruins the whole thing.

Maybe we will get some good news!

I agree, as my sig indicates. USA and SciFi are 100% stetch-o-vision free, including the commercials. Everything is shown in its proper aspect ratio

It was reported today that there may have been some technical problems that prevented the launch of SciFi and USA in HD today. Again notice I say "may have" so nobody who is really saying anything is sure but I do have these thoughts and information now..

Some speculate now it will be Monday but I don't know. There is a Charlie Chat on this Monday and he will probably talk about it. Maybe it will happen Monday just so he can say they are on. Otherwise I figure next Wednesday as that is the usual activity day.

I wish I knew the guy who actually throws the switch to turn channels on and off. But who knows? Maybe even he gets word to get ready to throw the switch then hold on, wait, sit back, OK get ready, set, NO!! NOT YET!! OK flip it in 5 seconds, 4, 3, 2, NO WAIT! STOP! OK.. Ready, set, NO!! WAIT!!!.. LOL

The word now is that the longest we will have to wait is till next Wednesday. About 1PM EST. Thats the best I have now and some of you know I have gotten this right in the past.

I hope sooner as these seem to be "real" HD channels for the most part.

Stay tuned boys and girls... Stay tuned.

All newbies should check channel 101 after your installation for hints on how to use your system. Everyone should make sure you check this channel on this Monday night (it's only on several times per year and Technical Chats are also on several times a year as well but thats another story) to see the Charlie Chat starring our wonderful CEO of Echostar, Charlie Ergen along with his sidekick, Jim DeFranco for all the latest Dish Network news.

The word now is there are in fact technical issues with these channels and Dish really did want to get them up last Friday.

There is also concern because the map down feature was disabled but they are still uplinked.

I think it's for real because Dish chose to remove 2 PPV's to make room on 110 for these channels. PPV's = more money for Dish.

More on all of this as the news becomes available.

Better to get the kinks worked out before they go live, imho.

Does anyone actually do the PPV stuff? I've never done it, with any service I've had. I don't see the point, especially when DVDs are dirt cheap these days.

Now if they'd take down a couple of home shopping channels, I'd be ecstatic! What a waste of bandwidth.....

;)

Can you imagine how much we would be screaming if they were giving us the shopping channels in HD?

I did a PPV once with a free coupon! :-)

12/6/07

* MPEG4 Test Channels 6940-6946 at 148° switched from audio test channels to video test channels. And channels 6947-6949 were removed from the system. (ANON) This makes 32 video test channels on at the same time on one transponder. It is unknown if these are unique channels, but that is the guess.

12/5/07 (ANON / Raymie)

* Those who have been asking "Santa Charlie" to bring them some more HD channels for Christmas may get their wish.
o USA Network HD uplinked BUT NOT YET AVAILABLE TO SUBSCRIBERS on channel 9431 tp 17 at 110°
o Sci-Fi Channel HD uplinked BUT NOT YET AVAILABLE TO SUBSCRIBERS on channel 9432 tp 17 at 110°
* To make room for the new HD channels PPV channel 531 and 534 were moved from tp 17 at 110° to tp 31 at 129°. There is no mirror at 61.5°
* Info channels added to channels 7039, 7048, 7769 and 7777 on tp 14 at 121°. These channels "book-end" the Erie and Providence locals telling subscribers that these local markets are leaving 121° and to call Dish for new equipment and installation.
* 35 MPEG 4 Test channels went up on transponder 2 at 148° on channels 6915-6949. 25 SD video and 10 audio channels on ONE transponder!
* New Free Preview Channels. Channel 281 went from Fuse to DIY and channel 282 went from IMF to CNBC World.
* Channels 283-297 which were inactive (unavailable to subscribers) free preview channels from a few cycles back were finally removed from the system.
* International channels 668 JSTV and 675 TV Japan were moved to tp 13 at 121° showing a slate telling the subscriber that this channel will no longer be available at 121° Call Dish for new equipment and installation to receive at 118°. TV Japan is now mirrored on channel 5726 tp 5 at 121° until the transition is completed. JSTV subscribers are out of luck.
* Channels 5722 ZGUJ and 5724 KBS were removed from 121°. The "move" to 118° is complete on these channels.
o Dish put the "Channel moving" slate on KBS on channel 9850 this afternoon, but then returned the channel (moved to tp 3 then back to 15) at 121°. The guess is that Dish realized this was a Public Interest Channel mandated by the FCC. Dish CANNOT remove the channel before the end of the cycle.
* KBBC channel 20 (Ind) in Bishop, CA (Los Angeles TV Market) was uplinked to channel 8024 on tp 3 spot 5 at 119°.
* Business TV HD channel 9651 was added to tp 2 at 121° and is now available to select subscribers.

Well I think it's time I appologize for this one. After all, I was the one who announced it was immenent.

Sources are being very hush hush right now about whats going on so right now, I don't know. The word earlier was a technical problem but now I suspect Charlie is looking for a lower price.

Just like everyone else here, I had my hopes up too.

Maybe Charlie's waiting to make it a Christmas present for the subs....

At least they're still uplinked. It's when they take them down that you know Charlie told them to take a walk.... ;)

Someone with more knowledge than I would have to explain the difference in detail but, I can infer that this is not a good thing... :(

To me, it essentially means that the current uplink is little more than a placeholder. Shades of INHD, if anyone remembers that "uplink."

I am told they are indeed uplinked in testing mode but the map down feature was taken away last week.

USA and SciFi are much more important than InHD. Charlie cannot just say no to these channels. But I do hope he gets us the best possible deal. Friggin TV is expensive these days for the consumer. I say the advertisers should be paying more and the viewers much less!
