All,
I have the VIP 622 and just saw the Homeplug connection video. I bought a Speedstream 14 Meg Powerline over ethernet plug that is homeplug 1.0 compatible. Problem is..can't get it working. Here is a summery of the hookup..let me know if something is wrong:
--Powerline over ehternet is plugged and and Cat 5 plugged into plug/ Router. I see port lit up on my router showing connection.
--Vip622 is plugging into the wall, not a surge.
--My router is a Wireless 54 G router with DHCP turned on. (I have Verizon FIOS for broadband)
--Powerline adapter shows ethernet link light and power link light lit.
--Receiver doesn't pickup connection from broadband menu and MAC doesn't show up on the screen.
--I changed router settings to accept any connection, not just 'G' connections and turned off MAC filtering, so, it should give a DHCP address.
If anyone is using the homeplug technology and has any tips on getting it working, that would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Damian

I called Dish network and spoke to a bunch of customer service reps or tech support people. They know NOTHING about homeplug. They kept taking me to the Dishcomm screen, not the broadband screen. Unreal how they had Zero knowledge of powerline over ehternet, homeplug, or how it connects without a phone line. Pathetic! Also, they spoke of an internet department which they thought could help, but, that Dept. stated they don't support homeplug and customer service is where that help has to come from. Unreal!

I ordered on from ebay and it will be here tomorrow. I too called dish network and they were absolutely no help at all. It sucks that they offer a built in homeplug and have no idea how to use it. I don't know if you've seen this (http://tech.dishnetwork.com/departmental_content/TechPortal/images/pdf/tech/HomeNetworkInstallGuide.pdf) page but it may help(page 8). Let me know how it goes.

Is the homeplug new or used it could be the security on the homeplug has been changed from its default setting to something else. With the 622 it will only take the default security setting no way to change it in the reciever (that I know of). I have 2 622 hooked up with 1 homeplug. It was pretty much plug and play. The only problem I had was on of my recievers is plugged into a outlet with a extension cord and it did not have the ground plug on it and it did not link up till I used a cord with a ground, mabey check that.

I will try and change the pw for the homeplug. I did buy it used..maybe that is what will fix it. I'll try tonight and post the results.
Thanks,

I received my homeplugs from ebay today. I got everything hooked up and running in under 5 minutes.

What kind did you buy? Are you using with wireless router?
Maybe the homeplug I have is defective.
Thanks,
Damian

I bought a cheap radio shack one of ebay. I'm using it with my wireless router.

All,
--Receiver doesn't pickup connection from broadband menu and MAC doesn't show up on the screen.
I, too, do not see a MAC address in menu screen in menu 6191 on my Vip622. Can others tell me, shouldn't the MAC address be there, even if it has never been set up on a network?
I just got a NetGear XE102 HomePlug today; didn't plug-and-play for me either. I'm thinking it has to have the MAC before it can conncet (obtaining MAC is not part of the set up process). I may try to find a 50' cable and run it to the box, but if there is a problem with the MAC, that won't work either (will it?).

My homeplug hooked up with no problems. Are you plugged right into the wall? They won't work with an extension cord. Have you tried to connect a computer up with the homeplug? Do you have a data and power light on the plug? Maybe your plug is bad.

I am plugged direct to wall. Lights on XE102 indicate it is "networking" (solid green light when plugged into router). And actually, when I try a "Reset Connection" on the 622, the light flashes a quick few times (indicating it is trying to talk to the 622).
My real question/concern is: the 622 should already have a MAC address assigned to it, shouldn't it? It doesn't get it from being set up on the a network; in fact, it can't be set up on a network unless it has a MAC address. My premise is that this is a hardware issue with my DVR (and the same thing damian faced when originally posting this thread).
Or am I wrong about the MAC address, and it can be assigned during network connect?

Sorry, I don't remember if my dvr had a mac address before I set up the homeplug. Good luck with the set up. Did you try to use the homeplugs to network a computer just to see if they are working?

I only bought the one plug for the router and don't have another to plug in to my computer to be able to test the homeplug portion.
I'm thinking if I try a direct cable, it will fail also (based on my MAC must exist theory).

The MAC address will not show up in the Broadband Connection screen until the receiver gets an IP address from your router (at least that's how my 722 works). If you haven't done so, try doing a Reset Broadband Connection.
If you have the correct status lights on your Homeplug adaptor and the LAN port on your router, then the adaptor is probably working.
