Is there a way to move recorded material off of the DNetwork 722 to a dvd?

Thanks

Martin

Yes there is, to a computer with a video capture card but it would only be in SD not HD. Once captured you could then burn it to DVD (in SD).

Any dvd recorder will work, you would have to play it real time and this would also be sd. Any recording on a Dish Receiver Hard Drive is encoded, so even if you tried to burn directly off the hard drive or transfer it to a computer will not work.

I am interested in copying some material from my 722 to DVD. I have an external HD and Roxio software program on my laptop for burning. Is this all I need?

Dish dvr recordings are encoded, you cannot copy them to a hard drive to record. You can use a capture card and record it in real time.

Yes, just connect your DVD recorder to the composite or component outputs on the 722. You have to play/copy in real time and it will be in SD because you don't have a HD DVD recorder

Hmmmm, yeah, I see why Dish would set it up this way. Now what about converting then copying to DVD from an external HD?

You can record to your hearts content, after paying Dish a $40 one time fee, you can use an external harddrive from 40gb to 750gb and transfer your recordings that are saved on your DVR. You can ONLY play the external hard drive material back through the DISH DVD. The fee covers all the DISH DVR's in your home.

I suggest using the forum search engine. There are several threads on this subject.

I frequently use my computer's capture card to record programs I have recorded on my 722. I use a Pinnacle standard definition PCI capture card with Pinnacle Studio Plus software. I have RCA cables running from the 722 to my computer room upstairs. The nice thing about the 722 is that it has the independent 2nd output, so you can watch TV while you record to your computer. There is some quality loss downconverting from HD to SD, and even more if the program will not fit at 100% quality on the DVD.

Ideally, it would be great to plug the 722 into the computer with a USB cable, do a few clicks, and copy. With copyright issues, I obviously see why they don't have the option.

Copy as in transfer, not as in record.

If you want to record & save your HD recordings, scroll up to my last post...........If you want SD recordings, use your DVD recorder, and your only out the cost of a disk.

I'm opting for the $40 DISH Fee and paying around $150 for a 750gb external hard drive. After investing in 2 HDTV's, it just makes since to spend another $200 so i can save my recordings in HD.
