Bell express vu

Now if I bought a plasma viera 50inch and have bell express vu satalitte system but it isn't hd one. Would I still see the programs in hd because my plasma is hd?

Not unless you have a HD receiver from Bell and not just a "digital" receiver.

You cannot receive a HD signal without the proper receiver, to my knowledge.:2cents

Depending on where you are you can get free over the air broadcasts with a simple antenna.

For example, in the Toronto area, a cheap antenna will get up to 18HDs channels. OK, CITY, CBC, CTV, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS all in HD, then their SD 'sub channels if they have them.

:hithere: Yes that is certainly true in most "metropolitan" locations, OTA signals can be picked up with the proper setup. Such was the case when we lived in Calgary. However, in the rural area my family lives in now, there are "0" over the air signals to take advantage of that perk.:crying: (Hell you'd be lucky to get a AM/FM radio or CBC signal here ha ha !:D ...foothills of Alberta)

:offtopic Do any of you have the service offered by Bell that includes the HD PVR receiver, phone and hi-speed internet in one payment service ? If so, how is the service with each ? I have been considering the move recently with our very unreliable internet service in this area of the country. It is hi-speed cable...when it works ! Then there's the television cable service...:banghead: If we get a windy day or inclimate weather, snow, rain...the kind of weather most of this country has been built to endure...In theory ? (I should say when we get a calm day, since wind is more the norm.) The signal drops in and out all day, then the receiver takes 15 mins. to reset itself ! Very frustrating watching hockey, nascar, or anything I suppose, that's all I use it for though. I missed the final 15 laps at Homestead last month !:eek: :mad:
I won't tolerate this when the NHL playoffs begin next April.:thatsit

Peace :)You might want to look in to Starchoice. They give you most of the HD channels at no extra charge. Outside of the PPV, movie channels and 3 channels owned by Bell Globe Media, are the only ones you have to pay for. The HD signals are much better on Starchoice, with less compression, since they now use MPEG4 8PSK. Expressvu still uses MPEG2.

Thanks for the reply Johnny Reb. However, my understanding is Starchoice do not offer the internet and phone service, or do they ? I did some checking online comparig Bell vs. Starchoice and was not able to find any mention of those other services. Am I missing something ?

Peace :)Not sure if Starchoice has the capacity to do two way internet via their system. I once was going to take a job with Starchoice, at their uplink centre in Mississauga, and they were considering it. To this date, I don't think that it exists. You must being looking into voip?

What is voip ? I am considering Bell Express View, plus I can customize a package which would include the telephone service and hi-band/hi speed internet service.

I had this discussion with a girl at work. She was determined to tell me that the HDTV they had converts all her regular cable to HD and same with her DVD's so there was no need to upgrade to HD signal for either because her TV did it all for her. I invited her over to see what a real HD setup looked like and how good the image SHOULD be with and HD signal to your HDTV. She didn't believe me.

this technology is getting to advanced for me. What is your setup made up of. Like what tv do you have etc.
