I don't know if this channel is dependent upon a package, but I'm watching the pre-game in HD right now.

Our local sports radio was blasting these games on the NFL channel. One guy said he'd be watching it and the other said "yeah, you and the other 9 people who get that channel!"

Luckily, Dish apparently has access to the few that do.

Yeah, thats what I keep hearing, is that few have this channel, but both satellite providers do. Most folks arent missing much, its rare to see hd material being played on it anyway...maybe as the season progresses theyll play more and more...but this last off season was a joke, always with the sd replays, always with the sd replays:eyecrazy

They have Thursday Night Football live in HD and that is all that matters.

Bloomberg News has a story about how the NFL is fighting against the cable companies who want to put the channel on a pay tier. The end of the article has the following paragraph:

"The NFL is asking fans to drop cable subscriptions in favor of satellite or telecommunications companies that carry the network, such as DirecTV." They could have at least mentioned Dish, but just the fact that they're telling people to boycott the cable companies is amusing.

Probably mentioned Direct because of Sunday Ticket. The NFL has more to gain if people sign up for Direct over Dish due to Sunday Ticket. They also carefully worded it by saying, "...SUCH AS Direct." This way they don't intentionally offend Dish while conveniently promoting Direct.

Didn't get to see the game (was hanging drywall in the addition until 10:30 pm) but walked into the tv room to check the score and PQ once and a while, PQ was fantastic. The area the we live in Massanutten Va (a 4 season resort) I belive has few people on the Comcast node, or don't watch that much TV, the transmisson from Comcast always seem great( I had Directv for 8 years prior) and the NFL network is really getting it together the PQ is as good if not better than ESPN and certainly better than NBC(when they broadcast football)

Unfortunately they use Brian Gumble as one of the announcers. My grandmother sounds more exciting than him during a football and she has no idea what is going on.

Well... Rather than just whole-heartedly agreeing with your statement, I guess I should say, I believe you, since I don't actually KNOW your grandma... :)

But I swear, he makes me want to flip the channel every time he opens his mouth!! :banghead: :banghead:

The sad thing about the NFL network broadcast is they were way worse last year! I watched one game in which Dick Vermeil didn't even know the instant replay rules. He also messed up the yardage associated with certain penalties. Then last night Gumbel was almost as bad. Cris Collingsworth is top notch though, I thought his analysis was very insightful and dead on.

I think it's laughable the NFL is being so heavy handed with this whole carriage agreement thing. No wonder the cable companies don't want to carry the network, it's production quality is awful(though the PQ was good). I know this isn't the real reason but honestly who would willingly fork over extra $ for this thing unless you were a die-hard football fan and had to watch every game or you didn't live near your favorite team so you had to buy it to see their games.

Far worse was Deion Sanders pontificating from the sidelines. The bad handheld camera spinning around him while he was gesturing was just plain silly.

If you look at the website, they prominently display the phone numbers for both Dish and Direct for people who want the channel - http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork

Point taken, Dodger, on the Sunday Ticket. Someone mentioned that Rush Limbaugh was talking about how they shouldn't be allowed to have an exclusive like that, since it is a monopoly. It's been like that for so long, I don't see why he's just complaining about it now.....

Brian Gumble was never interesting thats why the Today dropped him I guess. When my mother was alive and watched Redskins games(I don't care for the Rubberheads) if John Madden was the commentator she would make my father turn the sound down and listen to the game via the radio
