HD Channel Request?

There are a number of threads on the lack of HD channels in Dishs and how Direct is starting to kick a55. Is there a site/link where customers can request HD channels? If enough customers request a channel, say USA HD, maybe they will add it sooner.

Direct keeps calling me saying they will have more HD channels by the end of the year. Is Dish going to catch up?

You could contact Dish on their website. I did for what its worth. I hope Dish catches up. I don't want to switch but I will if i don't see some action soon.

You guys will have to wait until the new bird is up and running. By this time next year you will have around the same (more or less) HD channels as Direct.

I find it hilarious folks are under the impression direct tv is "kicking a55", when we are only talking a couple channels direct tv recently started carrying, and most of which are newly launched part-time hd channels. I personally wont waste my time calling or writing dish over new direct tv channels I dont get, Id rather give dish time to add them, and enjoy Voom HD, something Direct doesnt have. ;)

I do like the quality of the Voom channels when I can find something worth watching. The quality is really very good. Direct has: CNN, USA, CW, Nick, Cartoon, Bravo, MGM, SciFi, Spike, Smithsonian, Bio, CNBC, FX, MTV, VH1, TMC, SHO too, 4 Starz channels, plus more in addition to what Dish has in HD with the exception of Voom.

Yeah, that is quite the list of hd channels dish doesnt have. As a veteran of when there was only 6 national hd channels available, I still take new channels with a grain of salt. Do what you will with the 'number of hd channels', its still all about the content, percentage of hd material, and if things are stretched on any given channel. I take comfort in the fact that every voom channel is hd 24/7, I doubt the same can be said for the channels you listed. Its only a matter of time before those national channels are available on dish as well, excep MGM is a direct tv only channel, is that right?

Some enjoy Voom and that is why they chose Dish. Since there is absolutely nothing about Voom that even remotely captures my interest and I am a sports junky, my choice between the two providers was based on sports. If both providers provided the same exact sports packages, considering Voom is irrelevant too me, it would be a toss-up between the two providers, with Dish having better hardware (although Direct is closing the gap), and Direct having slightly more HD (this will change back and forth over the next year).

It is like I said on previous posts, it does not matter who has more, it only matters who provides more of what you want to watch. To each his own...

I think the Voom channels are a little underrated. There are some good shows and the PQ is excellent. But for me, they're not a deal maker, just a nice extra.
Give me more of the HBO/Stars etc in HD and I'm interested.
Show me EPL or Champions League in HD and I'll switch tomorrow ;)

I guess maybe this rampant speculation and carping is heard by DishNetwork, but It don't believe it has much weight with Dish's plans and actions, especially since the TNT debacle where everyone clamored "WE GOTTA HAVE IT, WE GOTTA HAVE IT" and now they all gripe and complain about how piss poor the "HD" is on that channel.

I've seen some say that Dish is being conservative with it's HD upgrading, not wishing to repeat the "MISTAKE" of jumping on TNT and getting burned.

The HD channels Dish will add will be HD channels not DirecTV's upconverted stretched pseudo-HD.

Yes, I know there are a couple of channels out there that meet those criteria, and I don't know why Dish doesn't carry them, perhaps it's a bundling issue.

you also have to take into consideration that alot of the new hd channels that don't broadcast hd that much will have alot of hd content by mid 2008, it takes time for shows to switch to hd, and money.....i also don't like voom, nothing interests me their except monsters hd, but we have chiller with direct and that is going hd soon...:yippee:

Did you mean TBS instead of TNT? We've had TNT for awhile, everyone was clamoring for TBS at the beginning of the MLB playoffs.

The only reason to get it anyway. I don't think I ever watch TBS, except for when they show baseball.

You are correct, TBS is what I meant.

Either way, it's still turner doing what they do... I think the HD on TBS and TNT are both poor. When the NBA playoffs roll around and the Mavericks on a local station in HD and on TNT, I watch the local HD broadcast because it's way better quality than TNT.

I enjoy alot of programming on TBS, reruns of The Office, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc. The quality isn't great but it's slightly better than the regular SD channel version.. I guess...

I much prefer to watch the poorer non-distorted PQ of the TBS and TNT SD than the better stretched PQ of TBS and TNT HD.
