Hello,
Approximately 3 weeks we got Dish HD programming. HD channels looked great on my Sony KDS-A2020(Rear projection TV, 60 in, 1920 x 1080, 16:9). Last week Dish installed DVR and it seems that quality of HD programming deteriorated drastically. Quality of picture is very soft not at all what should be expected with 1080p hdtv. It cannot be TV problem because everything looks great when I use my X-box 360.
I do not believe it is just our imagination. Is there any scientific way of checking if we are in fact getting HD programming?
We live in the middle of nowhere and cannot get any over antenna channels, so Dish is our only one option.
Will appreciate any input,
m

What type of receiver were you using before you replaced it with the new Dish DVR? Also, what model of DVR did Dish install?

Did you go to the settings menu of the 622 and make sure it was set to 1080i?

Geeze, my 1st thought was that the setting was at 480p but if it's 1080i or 720p something's definitely wrong. I've got a 622 & a 722 and both have excellent picture quality with either HDMI or component connections. Are you sure your receiver is hooked up with one of those? Component connections are the red, green and blue. Maybe they used the composite connections (red & white/audio & yellow/video)??? Those won't deliver HD.

We have HDMI connector. After Dish technician left we did find out that setting was at 480 p but we changed it 1080 with no improvement. Do not take me wrong it is still better than picture on no HD channels but it is definetely not waht we saw when the first receiver was in place.

Something is wrong here. Did you double check which input the tv is on? All outputs on both receivers are active at all times so you could be on the wrong input. Also double check that you are indeed watching an HD channel from the receiver. SD channels are viewable through HDMI, but pq would still suffer. I would not know what the problem is if it is not either of these two situations.

ya might try the settings on the TV for the HDMI input. You also might try looking at the setting on the TV. In my case, a JVC 52", I have to set the sharpness setting to OFF to get the best picture.
