modify DVI-I cable?

OK... say you have a DVI-I cable, but you need a DVI-D cable to fit your monitor. (There is no analog involved)

If you were to remove the four pins around the blade to make it fit physically, would it work like a DVI-D cable? Or, is it just simpler to get adaptors.

Just trying to save a few bucks and use a cable I already have.

thanks in advance for any help.

My guess would be yes. The 4 diagnal pins are for support of the analog (DVI-A) since DVI-I supports both DVI-A and DVI-D. How do you plan on extracting? Just be very careful. You don't want to damage your DVI connection. Since you can get an adapter for around $7, it may be easier for you.
