Questions to Toshiba 32HL67, Sharp LC-32D43U, and Samsung LN-T3253 Users!

Hello,

I am new to this forum, and i like to ask you a question to choose among these 3 beautiful sets.

First, to the Toshiba 32HL67 Users
- I read that this model's native resolution is 720p, but this set will be able to do 1080p over the HDMI as the site mentions. IS THIS TRUE??

i have both playstation 3 and xbox 360 Elite and i would DIE to see those in 1080p. i read that 1080p in LCDs don't matter, but it's nice to have the sharpest resolution.

Second, questions to the Sharp and Samsung users.
If Toshiba is able to do 1080p through the HDMI, can the Sharp LC-32D43U and Samsung LT-T3253 as well?

I saw both the models at Bestbuy the other day and i have to say clearly Samsung is the winner in terms of color/brightness, but just the thought of having 1080p under a $1000 seems good. Plus, i own a Samsung home theater, so if you can verify 1080p in the Samsung LT-32D43U, i would pick that model.

although i have seen the Sharp's 1080p 32in LCD, i would have to pass that model due to its price.

THANK YOU! reply please!!!

You are confusing "input" with "display".

All three sets have "native screen resolutions" of 1366 x 768 so they will "essentially" display 720p (actually 768p, but don't worry).

So whether the input is 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p, the input signal will be scaled to fit your screen which is 1366 x 768. Using a 1080p input will provide no benefit whatever, so don't worry about it. If you do get one of these sets, you should experiment with 720p input (which will be slightly upscaled to 768) and 1080i input (which will be down scaled to 768). I don't see any difference in PQ either way on my set, buy you may find one better than the other; if you do, use that one.

OH, so that's why a native 720p is able to display "1080p" haha

i thought it meant you can watch HDTV - meaning HD programming
but on those 720p, in 720 or 1080i, but able to play games on 1080p.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! for clearing this confusion between resolution and display

oh if only the 1080p Sharp 32in was cheaper >_<

Yes you can watch HD programming on a 720p set (it is excellent); as well as game - as long as you don't try to sit on top of the set (like 2-3') you won't even notice the difference between 720 and 1080.

I am looking for a good 32" TV and i am seriously thinking about getting the 32hl67, but i have heard that the black levels are not all that great. Can anyone confirm this? If i did get this TV it will ONLY be used as my gaming monitor for my xbox 360, as well as playing hd dvds through the 360 addon. How does the picture compare to the sharp aquos lc32d43u?

Where did you hear that reported? My guess would be on some forum by some nut with a plasma fetish. Frankly "comments" of that sort uasually come from the very uninformed or the passionately biased, rarely from dependable sources. There is no reason to believe that the real world black levels are any worse than any similar set.

the toshiba is a very nice unit I personally like it more than the sharp in the same price range. Toshiba is starting to make some nice LCD sets at a very competative price.
