"Weak or No Signal" when connecting Set Top box to 1080p samsung 56" DLP DVI to HDMI

I get a "weak or no signal" message when connecting my 1080p samsung 56" DLP to my Comcast DVR set top box using the DVI output on the box to the HDMI interface on the TV. The picture will eventually flash in and then go away. I have ruled out the cable by trying a second DVI/HDMI cable. I just got the box replaced today and will be hooking it up later and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar situation.

Does it work with component cables?

Could be the infamous HDCP "handshake" problem if it is only with HDMI.

My HDTV does work in component mode with the cable provided by comcast. I have since switched out the cable and box and still get the same issue. I can see the picture for about a second and then just distortion (snow). I have tried first powering the TV on, selecting the HDMI 1 and then powering the cable box as well as vice versa but still same issue. I am thinking of going into circuit city and see what they say. Is it possible I need a special brand DVI/HDMI cable?

Is the TV new? Has it ever worked with HDMI input?

It's not the cable. I'd say the TV is not working well with the DVI to HDMI conversion. Since component works use it instead. As said above it's the handshake issue. Not much you can do other than buy new equipment and make sure it has the Simplay logo. to show they are tested to work.

That's what I was driving at with my questions. If it is the TV or the STB that is causing the problem, then better to address the issue and get it fixed or get a set that works. If he buys an upscaling DVD player, gotta have the HDMI to make it work.

New TV is the only option.

This is my first time trying the HDMI ports. I wish I had another device with an HDMI interface to rule out the TV. I am going to see if Comcast offers a DVR box with HMDI instead of DVI. I will also talk with Circuit City where I bought the TV less than a year ago.

Thanks for all the responses.

Get comcast out to fully diagnose the problem.

If it is the TV, get on CC IMMEDIATELY while still in warranty and get it fixed or replaced. AND keep written documentation, so if the warranty expires you have proof that the problem originated prior to expiration.

good luck

If the Tv doesnt shows you image you just have to click the source or the video source button in your remote control and it will appear a window with TV, AV2, HDMI2/DVI options and stuff like that, the only thing you have to do is to move to the HDMI2/DVI option while pressing video source button several times, then press ok and it will solve the problem for samsung TVs, with warner cable control.
