Universal responds to Paramount's decision

Sounds like Universal is glad to have company. It should also alleviate the 'daily pressure' of going nuetral.

"To me it is a validation of a strategic stance we have taken, and I am so pleased that Paramount and DreamWorks have done as thorough an evaluation as they have done and come to the same exactly conclusion that we did long ago, which is that with HD DVD we have a format that offers the best and most affordable consumer experience," said Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Universal was the only studio to exclusively support HD DVD.

hopefully this should show blu ray supporters that Universal will not jump ship and go neutral

great news keeps coming for HD DVD owners

will it heck as. They'll still continue to harp on that Universal will be neutral very soon until Blu Ray is dead :p

Just like the "at this moment in time" "indefinite" exclusivity now means they'll probably crack before Xmas when Pirates sells 3 million copies on Blu Ray etc.

it's "indefinite" at "this moment in time" because there are currently no plans whatsoever to ever go back to Blu Ray. Of course that could change, in which case there would then be a point where they weren't HD DVD exclusive anymore.

It's far better than saying "we will never ever support Blu Ray ever again" then in 2 years time decide to go neutral again.

beatboy at AVS claims to have emailed someone at Paramount, and that there could still be some BD titles coming out. Also that this may be 18 months, maybe less.

I was busy posting it at AVS:D

Great find!

So much for the Universal going neutral theory!

Yeah exactly, and as usual we'll get alot of "rumours" fullstop about it. Which will then be reported by sam as actually being confirmed... like Star Trek for Blu Ray  (sorry sam couldn't resist).

I am realizing why on the whole the extreme Blu Ray fans have taken the news alot worse than all the pro Blu Ray announcement effected HD DVD fanboys now though. Sony sold them a player that will have won the war by now, HD DVD is already dead etc. and it completely goes against all the preconceptions they've bought from the BDA about the future of the HD war.

Can't wait to hear what Ken G. from Universal says about all this. Funny that he has been very silent. I would have thought that him being the most vocal of the HD DVD executives, he would be crowing from the rooftops - we have not heard one word from him.

And he is the head of the HD DVD PG

?

He's waiting to make a joint announcement with someone from Warner Bros about them joining the fold too probably :p
