Has anyone discovered a way to burn DVD's of stuff recorded on your DVR? My friend's dad has a DVD recorder that he uses and then somehow edits all the commercials out of the TV shows and then gives them to his son when he's away at college so that he can watch his shows when he doesn't ahve time to watch them live. I'm wanting to figure a way that I can do something similar so that way i can erase stuff off my DVR, yet still hae a copy of it.

Any DVD recorder which has a hard drive on it allows to select a start and stop point to be omitted when the recording is made. The trick is to record it to the hard drive first then edit it. The editing is not done on the dvr.

So I should simply look into buying a DVD recorder with a smaller hard drive since I already can store 100 hours on my DVR?

I use a TiVo Series 2 to record SD wide screen (downrezzed HD) material from my 211 (622 could do the same). The TiVo automatically downloads designated programs to my PC. On the PC I edit then burn to a DVD. With the 622 you could either record live to a Tivo or record recorded material later.
