Problem with Sony KDL46S2010 HDTV

Hi all,

I have Dish network for almost 5 years now and never had any problem with that. I recently bought a new TV (Sony KDL46S2010 HDTV) and here's my problem with it:

Every time I turn the TV and the receiver on, after about 30 seconds the "info" window pops up and stays on for 3-5 minutes, if I hit "cancel" on the remote, it will come back immediately and stays on. I have to hit cancel 20-25 times to get rid of it or wait 3-5 minutes for it to disappears on its own and I can not change channels during this period.

We called dish network because we were thinking it's our receiver's problem so they sent us a new one and same problem....

Does anyone have the same experience? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I don't think anyone can help without more info. What receiver/remote are you using? With the newer 622/211 HD receivers you should never have to turn them off - just wake up from sleep if too much time has past. It sounds like there is a stray remote signal out there calling for "info".

patmurphey, I will check the model of the receiver as soon as I get home from work. What other info should I post here you think? I can look them up. Dish Network just sent us the receiver last week but I am not sure it's one of those new HD ones you mentioned or not.

The thing is that I have been using the same exact model of receiver for like 5 years now and had no problem with it, now that I got this new TV, I am having this problem, so am pretty positive it's not the receiver....

How are you connected? HDMI direct to TV? Is the Info. window from the dish or the Sony? My Sony (almost identicle to yours) has no problem. Have you tried component cables to see if the problem persists?:what:

I have the same question as 5 is #1. When you say "info window" are you referring to the Dish Network info window or the TV info window? I have a Sony and when I first turn on my TV and receiver my TV info window stays on for about 20-25 seconds. It has information like which input I am using in the upper left corner and in the lower right is the time and the lower left is the screen mode info. If this is the case then the problem is with the TV.

I would double check it today and will post here. As far as I remember, the info was the Dish Network info page, you know how there are two kinds of info screen, one of them are white and the other one is a see through screen, right? When I turn the TV on, first the white info screen appears, then the see through one and I have to hit cancel several times and after 30 seconds it will finally go away.

About connecting the TV to the receiver, it is connected using a three end to three end color cable (those white, yellow, red ones). I haven't used the HDMI output of the TV. What's teh best way to connect them in your opinion?

Please help!

Thanks in advance (And I'll keep in mind to check the receiver model number today for sure, sorry for the delay)

This model is 5 years old? Is it even an HD receiver? There couldn't possibly be an HDMI output on it.

Yes616, I will check the model and let you know. I had the old reeceiver for 5 years and this new receiver looks just like that so it's very possible that this receiver is not a HD one.

Ok, I looked at the receiver. The model no. is DP301 and it's connected to the dish via the satellite in 13/18 V 750 mA input.

The receiver has three color input called: Right Audio (red), Left Audio (white) and Video (yellow) which all three are connected to the back of the TV to the corresponding inputs: left audio, right audio and video using a three end color to three end color cable.

On the back of the receive there are some more outputs: S-video, TV set out, TV antena cable in and phone jack if that helps.

Now, please let me know what causes the problem I explained at the top of this page.

Thanks

Your receiver is a standard def. unit. The HD Dish receivers are currently: Vip 211, 222, & 622.
Yor best quality would be to exchange the yellow video cable for an s-video cable. Either way, you will not get a great picture until you get an HD source. If you live in a metropolitan area, I would suggest a set of rabbit ears (OTA antenna) to tune in local HD channels to see what your missing.
You still haven't told us what the info. box says when you are starting up. Also, don't turn off you Dish receiver at night (see if that makes any difference).

5 is # 1,

I live in Northern Virginia, we get local channels via the receiver, am not sure if those are the HD channels you were speaking of or not...

The see through info screen, is the one which you see when you hit the info on your remote, same exact screen, it shows the name of the program, cast, start and end.

I haven't seen the other info screen which was not see through recently...but the see through one keeps coming on when I first turn the receiver on. It's only the first time and if I turn the receiver off and come back to turn it on let's say in couple hours, that screen won't pop up anymore.

Does leaving the receiver on all night make any harm to the receiver or it's safe?

Thanks again :)

The receiver can stay on 24/7 with no harmful effects. If you are close to a city, go get a set of rabbit ears at Radio Shack or Walmart and hook them into your antenna input. Then scan for channels. When you find some HD programming (and most primetime as well as sports are) you will see what your very good TV can do.

Without an HD receiver, tezarin will not receive any HD programming from a Dish Pro 301. If the TV has an ATSC tuner, he can in that way.

If you want real HD, consider upgrading the receiver to a ViP211, ViP222 (for a 2 tuner model) or ViP622 (if you want a HD-DVR but the monthly cost is more).

If you wait until Aug 15, a new deal starts then that gets you free HD for 6 months. Thats a $20 per month savings for 6 month. Not too shabby. Up to 7 new HD channels debut from mid-August till Sept 1 for a total of 39 national HD channels at that time as well. More coming in mid-Sept but what they are have not been announced as of yet. TBS-HD is a sure bet as baseball playoffs are coming from there. JIMHO

What is your DMA? (What city do you get TV from?) I will let you know if HD locals are available through Dish.

Thanks for the info. And you're right, without the HD receiver I can not get the local HD channels.

I live in Sterling, Virginia. Is upgrading the receiver to a ViP211, ViP222 (for a 2 tuner model) free of charge or I have to pay a monthly fee? If so, how much will that be Aprox. ?

it's great to know those new HD channels are going to be added very soon.

About the problem I have with the TV showing that info screen, do you think it's because of the way I connected the receiver and the TV (the three color to three color cable)?

I am sure if I leave the receiver on over night, that info screen will not pop up the next day but out of curiosity I would love to know if there's anything I did wrong while connecting the two together?

Thanks

The OTA antenna is for the TV input, not the 301 input. His TV has an HD tuner built in and should receive signals from D.C.. Watch what your TV can do with an HD signal and you will understand why you need an HD Dish box.
