I have a 622 DVR and when I set the res to 720 or 1080I
when I change the channel I get a picture break up which sometimes results in picture loss for a few seconds
sometimes the breakup occurs in the middle of a movie or a show
a tech came out and said it looked like an electrical problem but I have my doubts
any help would be appreciated

Goto menu.
Choose 6-1-1
See what it is on sat 110 - 119 - 129
All should be in the mid 70's to high 80's
If 129 is low that is your problem

You might check to see what signal the television is receiving. Look to
see if it has something like an HDMI, Av1, Av2, Component, etc. You
would want to be on your Hdmi, if you are using Hdmi cables. This
may help..:banghead:

my television doesn't have HDMI it was made in 2000
but it does support 1080I
it has a component input
it's a Hitachi Ultravision 60 inch
as far as checking the tv for what type of signal, all i see is the aspect ratio and color style...hd sd or ntsc
component input goes directly to Input 2 on my television
i know it's not signal drop because I can create the problem at anytime
i also know my tv can accept the HD signal at 720 and 1080 because the picture vastly improves as I change the setting upward on the receiver

Is it the 60SDX88B?
Where is "Input 2" on your TV? Front or back? Exactly what colors are beneath the cables?

yes it is the 60sdx88ba
the component input is in the back of the unit and is part of input 2
beneath the component input are input 3 and monitor out
they are just the regular white, yellow and red inputs...not currently being used

Here's what Hitachi said about its release:
"The next level of UltraVision Digital is SDX. "SDX provides the best possible picture quality for today's sources, and consumers can purchase SDX today without the fear of their purchase becoming obsolete tomorrow," said Mr. Ramirez All current programming is upconverted to 480p, eliminating any scan lines or flicker. Simply connect a digital set-top box to the high definition component video inputs, and this set can accept a 1080i HDTV signal.
The 60SDX88B includes 480p Progressive Scanning with exclusive Flex Converter technology, the UltraFocus SB lens system, UltraFocus SB PRTs, Magic Focus, UltraSensitive Velocity Scan Modulation and digital 3DYC comb filter.
The Flex Converter converts all 480i signals to 480p, and allows the set to accept 1080i."
Unless, where you wrote "all i see is the aspect ratio and color style...hd sd or ntsc"...do you have a choice of hd "HDTV", sd "Standard Definition" or ntsc "analog tuner"? If you can manually select, select HD, then try it.
If you can turn the Comb filter off, try it and see if it makes a difference. If neither of these provides any better results, it's probably the TV.
It doesn't look like the model is made any longer. It's 49 years old in "HD" years.
Sorry this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it doesn't sound like a 622 problem.
Hope this helps!

Sounds to me like your TV is set in "Auto" or Native and is switching screen resolution on its own. Picture flicker and/or momentary drop out is classic when the resolution is changed from 480I to 480P to 1080I etc... As far as it doing it during a show, I have seen that too when the network or the local station is having technical difficulties and their broadcast resolution is changing AND the cheap asses drop to lower resolution for commercials etc to save $$. If that is what is happening then your TV is doing what is set to do.
Turn off the Auto or Native feature and your problem should go away.
49 years old in HD Years?? OUCH!

thanks for the info
as far as the comb filter...that setting can't be changed if using the component input....it's automatic
and i don't know about the Auto or Native setting...there isn't anywhere for me to do that
i did read somewhere that there are two convergence processes for this particular chassis
both normal and HD convergence...but the HD convergence can only be done through the service switch...which I don't know how to operate
