Dish lost another customer for good.

Long story short I had Dish for 18months and full filled my contract. Due to money issues I dropped service with Dish and had cable installed I had hoped to save a little $$ till we were a little better off. Well a week after I called and had service disconnected I received a call from the customer retention dept down in South TX. They informed me that I could come back to Dish and get more channels that I had and for cheaper than what I was paying. That got me very interested as to be honest cable is horrible, I had a nightmare install and the picture is barley watch able but that’s another story.

So anyway I talked to the rep and I was told to continue to send back my equipment in the box Dish gave me as new equipment would be shipped back to me. I thought that was odd but if I didn’t send back the equipment I still had I would be charged the full price of the equipment. So the deal was I was to get the top 250, HD and a new HDDVR (just sent mine back) and 1 standard receiver. They were also going to wave the $49 fee to reinstate my account and throw in 3 months of HBO and show. And set up an appointment to have the dish reinstalled (free) on 7-15-07 between 8-12. The bill was going to be $59 for ten months then it would go up $10 per month. I asked then several times on the phone, to verify the deal, and was told yes, over and over great I can’t wait to see the new HD channels I had dropped them a while back to save money.

Well 12:00 came and went on Sunday 7-15-07 and no call not service tech. I waited I thought maybe he got hung up on his first install. After around 3:00 I called Dish and they told me they only showed me as “account closed” I told 3 different reps my story and they said sorry but your account is closed. And that no appointment to reinstall was listed? So I then talked to a supervisor what a joke he was no help what so ever and just argued with me that I was not eligible to get new equipment. I would have to pay full price for a new HD DVR at something like $700 to come back to Dish. I said a few choice words and asked to be transferred to the Customer retention dept. He refused to transfer me and said I was not eligible to come back to Dish. So I called back and talked to some one else. By this time I was pissed I was told I would be getting reinstalled that day and no money up front, my account would just restart with a new contract and the same account. So then I talked to a customer account specialist? What ever that is but after about 30 min on the phone she said she had to talk to her coach? But anyway in the end I was told I could come back if I paid $250 for the DVR and signed a new contract. I told them forget it I’ll just go with Direct TV they will charge me $200 up front but will be getting more HD anyway in Sept. Just really ticked me off, I would have loved to go back to Dish. I really do hate cable and will be forced to go with Direct. Seems like Dish has no idea what they are doing one group told me one thing and the other same company said something totally different. Come on Dish get your act together.

Wow, if only you'd recorded the original phone call, you'd have a major lawsuit on your hands AND Directv would probably have paid you to be a spokesperson on a few commercials. What assholes, all of them!!!

Sounds like you got scammed by a telemarketer. They took all the information scheduled you and then when they found out they couldn't install you because you were a Dish customer just recently they dumped you out of their system.

I'd bet that you were not contacted by Dish themselves but by a retailer who tried to sign you up.

In my experience, even if I still had an original box, Dish would always send a receiver first, then tell me to send back the one I have (if I had one) in the same box.
That's your real protection. If you don't get a receiver you can activate, you got nada!

Give it a month or two, and they will be calling you offering
you a better deal. They aren't going to just ignore you. It
is all about one thing money. They will want you back.

This isn't the first such story I've heard about satellite and cable providers. I've been a longtime Dish Network customer and for the most part a satisfied one. However, something sort of similar happened to me about two years ago when I was contacted by somebody claiming to be from DN offering me Cinemax for only $3 more than I was already paying. Sounded good, so I agreed. Of course when the first bill arrived, I discovered that it wasn't $3 but $7. I immediately called DN and complained. They discontinued Cinemax and waived the $5 fee they usually impose for unsubscribing. In retrospect, I think the caller might have been a marketer not directly connected to DN.

My direct dealings with DN's customer service have always gone quite well. Mostly these calls have been about technical issues, and they're always willing to help. So far, they've managed to solve the problems. So the lesson I've learned is to deal with DN directly and not with the marketers who call offering things they can't deliver.

I hear these issues everyone once in a while, but I have always had good experiences, its a shame that you have decided not to come back but I would be mad to.

It’s funny as yesterday D called my house I think 6 times, even talked to my oldest daughter and tried to find out if I am willing to come back. When I did finally get home they called again and I talked with them for about 20 min. I explained that when I had Dish other than a few small issues and my hard time with the price (wife took a substantial pay cut) I loved their service. I liked the channels, the remote, and the placement of the channels into some form of rhyme or reason, unlike cable whose channels are all scattered about and in no particular order.

But I also explained to them that well since I have taken the time to do my homework. I found out many of my favorite channels will be going HD on Direct T starting in about a month. I asked Dish if they were going to have FX, The Science, Sci-Fi channel and others in HD anytime soon. They could only respond with well WE currently have the most HD channels with 33 channels of HD. I just thanked them for their time and told them I was no longer interested. And of course they started to argue with me and I hung up.

You can obtain HD info on all the channels you are interested in from other sources, like the websites for SciFi etc.
Those are the only sources you can rely on. Dish or Direct have no control over which ones are going HD.
But Dish is right, currently they do show the most HD channels.
Sci Fi for a fact has no immediate plans to go HD.

I talked to a Dish Account Specialist on 07/22/07 and she informed as soon as a station goes HD, they add it to the programing.
