Need help deciding D* vs. E*

I have been a cable subscriber for the past year but I am getting killed on the rental of their boxes. I have been researching very hard the differences in DTV and Dish but still cant decide. I have had DTV in the past and was a happy customer.
Here is what I am looking to do:
I will need 1 HDDVR, 2 HD rec, 3 std def rec (1 on a outside tv... so a dual tuner running this TV would be nice=dish). I have a 100" front projector so picture quality will be noticeable. I am leaning towards Dish because of the decreased start up costs and the VIP receiver. Does this sound about right?
Thanks for your help!

6 receivers? :eyecrazy You had better think about less like 3 dual tuner receivers. If they are all hooked to a phone line, you will only pay for 2 extra receivers.

I would suggest the ViP622 HD DVR and 2 ViP222's. On both of these receivers you have only one output is HD and the other SD with HD downconverted to SD. UHF remotes will work the receivers in other rooms.

With this many receivers to start, you probably will need to pay extra for at least one receiver to start. PM me for a Dish Club number and we can knock the start up cost down a little more if you want to go this route.

PS.. Others may chime in with their Dish Club numbers, but I gave this idea to you first. Stick with me kid and you are going places. lol

Thanks for all of the info Yes. That sounds like a good way to do it. When I talked with Dish they mentioned that I could have my HDDVR ran to a SD tv, but they didnt mention having more that 1 receiver that can do this. Can the VIP622 do this or only the VIP222s? What is this Dish number you are talking about?
How do you feel about Dish compared to DTV for what I want to do? HD quality on my front projector?

The ViP222 is a non-DVR HD receiver with 2 outputs (1 HD, 1 SD) with separate tuners. The ViP622 works the same but it is also a DVR.

There have been problems reported with the DirecTV DVR but not so many lately. I suggest reading the Direct threads for details on that. I like the Dish picture much better than Direct from what I have seen at Best Buy. I see the picture flickers alot but that may just be the way the TV's are set up in the store.

I also have cable (TWC) to suplement what I have and the Dish picture looks much clearer.

I just sent you a PM.

It all depends on what you want programming wise. I just switched over to Directv cause im a sports buff.

With Directv i get:
Locals in HD, Dish isnt available yet in my area
NFL Ticket
Ability to order MLB extra Innings
Also if the hype is true, 150 HD by years end......really dont care about that tho, just want TBS-HD (MLB playoffs are on TBS). So far only channel I lost HD wise is NFL Network, i never watch the Vooms.

You have to analyze what programming you prefer. I cant tell you what offers a better picture cause i have compared them yet. I can tell you Dish HD is very nice picture. I have no complaints what so ever with Dish. Fact is Directv is setup up for sports fans but it will cost you a tad bit more.

I definately would like to watch HD sports but mostly college football and it looks like both DTV and Dish will allow me to order college gameplan? Will both allow me to get the fox channels?
Thanks again

As in your local Fox channel? Where are you? I can then let you know.

I just called Dish and they will only let me have the VIP622, 2 VIP 211s/ and I will have to purchase a std. def receiver. I would like to get the HD dual receivers (VIP 222) but they will only allow me have enough receivers for 4 tvs. Do you know how much a VIP 222 or 622 would cost?

At The Dish Store 622 is $499, 222 is $288.

Be VERY wary of "NEW" DishNetwork receivers being sold on eBay under dealer cost. Be sure you get both the R00 and S00 numbers and verify with DishNetwork that these are not, shall we say "grey market" items (stolen).

Maybe you should consider modulating a signal throughout your house. I use a single 622 modulating Vid. 1&2 on ch.15&17 and add them to a Dallas OTA antenna signal. It saves me a bundle and I can change the vid. 2 signal by UHf remote from any other room (bought an extra remote on Ebay for $10).
If you need it, you can always add a second HD receiver at another HD TV.
The 622 will allow 3 HD programs to record at once (2 sat., 1 OTA).
