I have a Dish ViP622 which is working fine. Of course, now that it's summer, I get some signal loss during storms, but that's to be expected. I have it attached to a Sony DAV-X1 home theater system, through the digital audio output.

But the last two days have been exceptionally windy, and I'm getting really, I mean *really*, strange behavior. In the midst of a Dish signal acquisition screen, the system will suddenly drop into one of the DAV-X1's diagnostics modes, where it invokes each of the speakers in turn with a spoken auditory cue. ("Left", "right", "center", "left rear", "right rear"). The title on this screen is "Channel ID Sequence", with a list of the speaker locations (left, right, center, subwoofer, ...).

:what: I know, I know -- y'all think I've been imbibing or inhaling something funny. Or maybe I'm off my rocker. Or maybe I'm pulling your legs.

But I'm not! This is really happening, and it happened more than once. The LCD display on the DAV-X1 is not changing is any way (e.g., from "Video 1" to FM or DVD), and there's no DVD disc in its tray.

In the last hour, I was watching the local high def ABC station (KSTP-DT) when it happened several times. Also during this time, I saw two other events: while the normal broadcast sound continued, the screen changed to show diagnostics screens, "ABC NY", and then a segmented test screen. Is someone hacking the ABC network?

Am I hallucinating? :eyecrazy Has anyone else seen anything else like this? Someone, anyone, please tell me you heard or saw this too... Sande
