HD Prieview channel?

I have heard that there is an HD preview channel. Is this true, and if so what channel is it?

Don't know about an HD preview channel, unless you are referring to the HD Demo Channel which Dish retailers were using when HD first started up. It is still on Dish Network on channel 9443 but is only available at the 61.5 orbital location. It is also know as The "Fish" channel as it features amazing aquarium footage.

Yeah, I wish they would change it up a little more, aquarium is nice, but thats all they ever seem to show.

Wish they would drop the fish in favor of a real HD channel. It's nice to impress those who never seen HD before but after seeing the fish for a few minutes you move on.

And, unless you're blind, the picture quality on the demo channel is much better than the other HD channels (in both resolution and bitrate). WOW the masses with steak then give them ground beef :)

You need a dish pointed at 61.5 and any HD receiver. You get the channel whether you subscribe or not.

You don't get to preview HD without getting an HD receiver - so you're going to be paying for HD anyway - no going back - even if it's just an HD enabling fee.

I believe the original poster is referring to channel 287.

It has not been active since last fall when it had NFL-HD, RaveHD and NGEO-HD last summer when it first became available. Cinemax almost came on next but then came the hardball negotiating between HBO and E* so that never happened. Remember all that now? But since early November 2006 it has been hidden and not active.

If ever Dish were to include an HD preview again, channel 287 is the spot as it is still set up to be HD.

The channel 287 "HDPreview" channel was not really necessary. It could only been received by MPEG2/4 HD receivers and I guess they could give glimpses of HBO-HD, CinemaX-HD, Stars-HD, but most others are already available to MPEG4 subs, and MPEG2 is being phased out.
