My best guess, probably December 2007, but this is only a guess.

I gave up and added a 211 that feeds my TiVo directly where I record High quality SD in letterboxed format and transfer it to my PC for burning to DVD or whatever. The 211 can output 1080i or 720p to HDMI and component while also outputting letterboxed SD via S-Video and composite, my 622 cannot do this.

I was talking to my Dish Network account manager yesterday. He said that August 15, 2007 was the kickoff date. He's not one to spread wild rumors.

Any other information available?

I too have it confirmed that Aug 15th is the day. A big one at that as all Voom goes MPEG-4, new HD channels get activated and the new ViP722 HD DVR (with a larger internal drive) will all be coming on that same day along with new promotions as well.

The USB port will be activated on both the ViP622 and ViP722 on Aug 15 as well. A $40 one time USB enabling fee will apply but it will the only charge for all appicable receivers at the service location.

This is great news. I was planning on buying a 500GB hard drive to use with my 622.

Does anyone know how many hours of HD recording time 500GB would hold?

Thanks for your help!:yippee:

I don't have any information on the 722 but you can read this thread for a discussion on the new channels.

Anyone know if an external IDE drive will work or will a SATA drive be required?

I think I will wait at least a couple of weeks after the download before connecting a drive in case some problems begin to surface with the new software. Naturally, it should have already been pre-tested but those are often famous last words.

It uses a USB external connector. If your USB allows SATA or IDE the USB interface does not care. I wonder if an external USB BLUERAY would record off the USB - NAAAA!
