i have a 32 inch samsung lcdtv. i also have two dish network receivers, 211 411. i have the 211 hooked to my tv with the hdmi cable and then i have rca jacks running to a ilo dvd recorder. i have the 411 hooked to my liteon dvd recorder with rca cables. both recorders run to a switch box using rca cables and the switch box is connected to my tv with rca jacks. problem is when i play back the programs i record they don' look that good. i can take the recorded programs out of the dvd recorders and play them on my computer and they look great. im looking at gefen scale that says it will give me a hd picture from a standard source. i m thinking of running the rgb lines out of the recorders to the gefen and then frrom the gefen to my tv using the hdmi outlet on the gefen scale. im trying to get the same picture quality as when im watching my tv running straight from the hdmi out of the receiver. any thoughts on this.

No matter what cable(s) you use, the DVD recorders will only record at 480p. Without an HD recording device capable of recording 1080i or 720p you'll never get the *same* PQ, no matter what Gefen's product literature might suggest. To the best of my knowledge, there are no HD DVD or BD recording devices that will do what you're looking for.

It's likely that the DVD's look better on your computer because of a combination of the computer video card's better scaler and/or viewing the content on a smaller screen.

That being said, running Component out to the recorders will likely yield better PQ than your current set-up. Even S-Video would probably offer a slight improvement...

I use an upconverting DVD recorder/player with Component out from my 622, and HDMI out from the recorder/player, and it's still nowhere near HD PQ.

To record and playback HD broadcasts from a 211 or 411, I would suggest either waiting for E* to support external HDD recording options on those STB's, investing in an R5000 (http://www.nextcomwireless.com/r5000/home.htm) mod, or upgrading to one of the HD DVR's.

EDIT: I almost forgot... in your set-up, the only time you're seeing something in HD is when you're using the 211, that is hooked up directly to your TV via HDMI.
