How do I aim my Dish Network HD antenna?

Newbie here,

I searched with the above string but was unable to find the thread I need.

Can someone direct me to a resource on how to aim my Dish network HD antenna? I am moving and am going to attempt to aim my antenna myself to avoid the delay. I am in Utah, if that makes any difference and am going to mount the antenna on a self standing mount on my 3rd floor balcony.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Michael

I assume you mean Dish not antenna? A pole concreted in a 5 gallon bucket works well.

What dish do you have, how many, and what channel plan do you have.

If you mean the OTA antenna for HD locals, you can get the directions from antennaweb.org

If it's the Dish, I'd say up..lol

To get everything offered now and in the future (HD locals), I'd say you need to see the 110, 119 and 129 orbital spots. That would mean a Dish 1000 for your area.

Hopefully, your dish will have a view to the south and southwest without obstructions. That is the general direction you will want.

On your HD receiver, press menu on the remote then 6-1-1 and plug in your new zip code. That should get you going with some info you need.

Yeah, I mean dish. I am a Dish Network customer thus my post IN the DISH Network Forum... I have set up numerous DirecTV dishes in the past using a combination compass/level that I have. I have a dual lnb dish that I will mount on a tripod for satellite dishes from Camping World. I have heard it is much harder to line up the HD dish. I have found the az/el which I understand and a component called "skew" which I am unfamiliar with. I have searched the FAQ's and other threads here without being able to find the information I need. I know how to get to the signal strength portion of my setup program.

I can get the DISH people to come out, but there is a 4 day wait and they want me to sign for an additional 18 months.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Skew is the tilt of the dish. Setting should be along lower part on the back of the dish when you look from directly behind it ie: the are should be pointed straight in front of you.

So Im guessing you have a 1000 if you say an HD dish.

If so, it picks up 110,119 and 129. You can look on www.sadoun.com or use a 622dvr for the az/elev for 119. Set the skew to 90 and the set the az and elev to the best signal you can get on 119.

Once you have peaked the dish to 119, you can slowly turn the skew to pull in 110 and 129.

Dish 1000 install instructions are here:
www.satelliteone.com/dish/support/DISH_1000_Installation_Guide.pdf

Approx settings for D1000 from page 13:

Azimuth (compass bearing) - 177 degrees (almost due south)
Elevation - 43 degrees (almost half way up the sky)
Skew (rotation of dish) - 99 degrees (just a little right of horizonal).
