Wiring for Sat's

What kind of wiring would a Satellite provider put in my home? I'm just wondering if they can use the existing cables that were put in when the house was pre-wired for cable, or do they have to run all new lines to every room? Thanks! :hithere:

p.s. I just picked the Dish thread because it's a Sat, but I'm also considering DirecTV at this point.

Wiring for Satellite's should be RG6. RG59 is not capable to handle the signal properly.

OK, thanks. I'm sure everthing in my home is RG6. So does this mean that Dish or DirecTV could use the existing wires and not have to run new lines? I'd hate to have all new wiring plus extra wall boxes.

They may have to rewire the boxes, depending on how they are hooked together, but if it is RG6 the majority should be ok.

Good news :) , thank you. This is one more piece of the puzzle I needed before going to DISH.

If it is "cable" RG-6, it may not be sweep tested to 2250 or 3000MHZ.

Some of Dish Networks satellite/switch combos need high frequency cable because they "stack" a second set of channels above the normal ones.

Odds are the RG-6 you have will work, just a heads up.

RG6 Quad Shield is preferred if you have a choice.
