We are a Canadian research team looking for people to take part in a paid usability study evaluating how people use cable and satellite receivers. Our focus is on the number of steps that are required to find and flag a TV show for recording, as well as identifying the features that users think are “cool”.

The study will take about 2 hours of your time (from home) and the deliverables will be a VHS, DVD or AVI recording of your usage of the device menus and features as well as a 1 page write-up summarizing what you like and dislike about the product (details below). Participants will be remunerated $100 and reimbursed for the cost of mailing the VHS cassette \ DVD \ AVI to us.

We are interested in recruiting participants who own any of the following receivers:

Moxi DVR
AT&T Uverse HD Set Top Box
Sky HD PVR Tuner

DELIVERABLE 1 – VHS CASETTE \ DVD \ AVI VIDEO.

We require a recoding of under 30 minutes that highlights the key features of the product, the most important areas are the episode guide and PVR (recording functionality). Yuor recording should show include the following:

• Surfing through all menus
• Show how you find and order Video on Demand (VOD) content (you don’t need to actualy order, just take it up to the final step)
• Show how you find and order PPV content (you don’t need to actualy order, just take it up to the final step)
• Show how you view the description of a TV Show, Pay per view (PPV) and Video on Demand (VOD) content
• * Clearly show the device’s episode guide. We would like you to specificaly surf through the episoded guide and find CNN. We would then like you to find the next occurrence of Larry King Live and flag it for recording.
• * Show how you see which programms have been flagged for onetime and repeated recording
• * Show how you access previously recorded content
• * Highlight any and all options availible in the episode guide.
• * Show all the different ways of finding and recording content
• Use the category listing feature to filter the episode guid to movies only and surf through a list of availible movies
• Clearly show the ”Search” functionality of the receiver – Try finding the next broadcast of ”Larry King Live”, if you cannot find it, then find some other show.
• Show any interactive features (weather, sotck quotes, games etc.) that are availoble in your receiver

Please surf through menus and perform actions slowly so that it is easy for our researchers to follow through the screens. Our focus is on the ease of finding and recording content so all recording (PVR) and episode guide (EPG) functions must be shown extensively.

DELIVERABLE 2 – 1 PAGE WRITEUP

We require a concise 1 page writeup in bullet form highlighting 3 things: 1.) what you like about your receiver, 2.) what you dislike and 3.) How they can improve the receiver

Please PM me or send an email to ammar.khan [at] gmail.com if you are interested in participating in this study and can send us your writeup and videotape \ DVD within 5 days of agreeing to participate in the study.

You will be paid US$100 upon reciept of your recording and writeup.
