Does this mean that Triple layer IS going to happen with HD-DVD?

Here is a link to a Toshiba Canadian PDF:

Look at the caption under the 3 disks on page 3 of this PDF. :D :D :D

I wonder if the adoption of the triple layer HD-DVD will be announced at CES next week?

Maybe but I would like to know if TL is just going to be a dual layer HD DVD and single layer DVD or could it also be three layer HD DVD or 45GB?

That's right...one article a while back talked about Toshiba's TL, but only referred to immediate plans consisting of dual layer HD-DVD with additional layer for DVD version of the film. No mention of TL HD-DVD exclusives.

That still sounds like the TF we've been hearing about and is better than the current dual sided discs. Question is what will the cost be for such titles?

If that is referring to the hybrid TL discs, then that's definately wonderful. If it's referring to a 45gb TL disc that would also work on our first generation players, then that likely means checkmate for the BD crowd. This of course is my opinion. All I have to say is that i'm getting more and more eager about what possible announcements will be made at CES!!!

That article was dated 1 1/2 years ago but shows that they had the capability to do this even back then. I think it wiil become a reality that TL HD-DVD discs are coming it is more of WHEN they will be coming more than anything else IMO.

True because Toshiba announced triple layer 45GB HD-DVD over a year ago. They probably are just waiting for price for triple layer tech to drop, esp since HD-DVD still is a niche product.

TL would be great....as long as they'll play in my machines.

I agree Bruce but I doubt they would do that to the early adopters like us. Maybe it would almost be acceptable if they only used that 3rd layer for extras in HD and we could watch all movies in HD and still had the extras in SD as most are currently at. I could almost live with that to get TL for the formats sake to shut up the BD capacity issue. :D

BTW, HAPPY NEW YEAR Bruce!

I doubt that soon. If announed at CES, we're likely looking at late Spring or early Summer.
