I'm amazed that so many people here like Sharp LCD HDTV's..the reviews I've read about them are not usually good.Plus I've seen these tv's in person and they're not much to write home about. It reminds me of the Emperor's New Clothes story..people here say how wonderful this brand is...why???
I find the response time on it attractive and an insentive to buy the tv..but on the other hand most people who have owned a Sharp LCD HDTV have had banding issue problems.
Why should I buy this tv?

Well, I own a 32" AQUOS but its the 2005 model or the D4U series which were highly reviewed and are damned good TV's. That being said, when shopping for my recent 42" set I did try a new AQUOS and returned it after about a week and replaced it with a Panny plasma.
Why the return? Horrible viewing angles.... I mean like Old RPTV bad. And, it just had that "overly-digital" look to it with artifacts popping up here and there even on stations that my 32" AQUOS looked great with. I might have had a bad one and I did not see any banding strangely.... but nevertheless, I returned it. The Panny kills it in almost every regard.
I wonder if Sharp got a little too "big-headed" with early success and sales numbers? I still think they have the capability to produce great TV's but the latest models appear to have some flaws that need to be worked out.
They are worth looking at...but there seems to be a higher likelihood that you'll get a set with issues when compared to previous versions that were better.
My 2 cents.... ( and STILL a Sharp fan, my 32D4U RULES! )

The banding issue is very new - just a couple of months old. If you have doubts don't buy the current ones. If you only want a Sharp buy a discontinued one, buy a current one and be prepared to return it if banding exist or wait for the next models to be introduced the week of Jan 07 2007.
see this thread saying Sharp has corrected the issue:
