This is the Dish Network forum, but if DirecTV is like Dish, HD Locals ARE on spot beams and are therefore only available in the vicinity of the target city. Find out what transponder the HD locals you want are on and manually look at that transponder to see if you have any signal there.

I get the local HD station on dish in the 6000 series. you have to subscribe to locals but they look great from my vip 211
I have two of them plus a big OTA for my locals but they look as as good on dish when it is a little windy in my city
Have a great night
you can sign on to dish and give your zip code and they will tell you if they have local HD iin your neighbor

What about regular locals? I live right on the border between Madison and Milwaukee locals and get Milwaukee even though I'm closer to Madison. I know someone in my town that put another town's address down and now they receive Madison locals. Could that work?

My parents have a similar situation, they live in an area where they can choose which locals they receive because they are right in the middle. They are slightly closer to one but still have the option of either. This was true with Direct TV and Dish Network - they are still weighing their options. My dad is greedy and wants both, ain't going to happen.
If you prefer Madison over Milwaukee then give Dish a call and see if you have that option. I don't know if the recent ruling affects any of this though.

I know people in town have never been able to choose. I think that's the difference between this situation and your parent's. Every new subscriber is told they have only Milwaukee locals. That actually has turned quite a few people away so they've stayed with cable. Is it possible to just change your service address or will that cause as many problems as it sounds like it would?
