42" TV Brain Busted.....

Ok.
I've been racking my brains out over buying a 42" TV. At first I was like ok Plasma....but then I got word of "burn-in" as I want to play PS3 on this. So I started looking at LCD's. Then the whole 1080p debate started coming into play. Now I'm sitting here scratching whats left of my head after it exploded from reading all the mumbo jumbo on forums and websites about "this" and "that" feature.

All I want is a sweet ass TV that will play movies and games in delicious detail. I'm looking at two options now.....the Panasonic TH-42PH9UK or the Toshiba 42LZ196.

What are the "masters of high def" thoughts on these options.

Thanks

If those are my only two choices, I'll take the Panasonic plasma everytime. Best plasma bang for the buck out there.

Its not that they are the only two choices...just the two that look to hav the most bang for the buck. I'm open to suggestions/recommendations. But keeping within a $3000 Cdn budget.
Thanks/Cheers

My advise is to disregard any advice from Steeb. He is the king of mumbo jumbo

I agree. I recently picked up a 42PX600U as a secondary TV (it will be used primarily with our second XBOX 360) and it's been great so far.

OP - if you do go with Panasonic, be sure and take it out of "Vivid" mode first thing. Then, assuming you don't have a calibration DVD like DVE, use the THX optimizer on a DVD like Star Wars or T2 to get it calibrated as well as possible. A professional calibration is always best, but this will get you going in the meantime.

Also, be mindful of image retention for the first 100 hours or so (though I haven't seen a hint of it so far on my new Panny.)

I like my Sharp LC42D62U so far. Nice blacks and its got that LCD "snap".

It is well within your budget also! :)
