Searched the forum and didn't see anything about this system, so here is my question. I am looking to get my first surround sound system. I don't know a whole lot about them but my budget is right in the $280-300 range that this falls in. I've got a Panasonic Tau 1080i CRT and an Xbox 360. I know I need some surround sound to truly get the experience of HDTV and my 360. So for the price range I have, is the Logitech Z-5500 Digital a decent HTIB system? CNET gave it a pretty solid review and has solid user reviews as well. As experts, what do you think of this system for my budget?

Well it looks like a really good computer sound system. It does not have a remote and the inputs are limited. The other system you asked about a while back (http://www.highdefforum.com/showthread.php?p=155325#post155325 (http://www.highdefforum.com/showthread.php?p=155325#post155325)) looks better as a HTIB to me, although the Logitech could very well sound better. Also the panny system is $50 off today.

Thanks for reminding me of that post, I decided to hold until I could get a little bit better quality speakers. So have about a $300 HTIB budget now. I just came upon these speakers as well. You seemed not very impressed by the Logitechs and I know Onkyo has a pretty good reputation. Would you feel this would be a better HTIB for about the same price as the Logitechs?

Well my comment was centered around the fact that the Logitech does not have very many inputs and it does not have a remote control, neither has anything to do with the sound quality. That system and the other one will provide better features for HTIB use, but again that will not have anything to do with the sound quality. I'd say audition them and let your ears decide.

It is a very good system but, my only complaint is that it does not have a HDMI connection. I think that is very necessary now with the new HD systems.
