Hey guys - hoping that someone can help me out.
I got dish 300 and 500 for SD and HD channels (no international). I want to move over to one dish so I was informed that dish 1000 might make it happen.
I currently went ahead and changed my receiver setup (menu->6->1) to repoint my dish 500 to pickup from 119 (signal strength is almost perfect). I do not think that I lost any channels.
Does that mean that I do not need another dish ? I am not clear on how this works from the receiver aspect..
Thanks in advance.

110, 119, and 129 are available on Dish 1000.
The only reason to have a 2nd Dish is reception of 129 is marginal in some locations. In those cases, a separate Dish for 61.5 can be used and 110/119 remain on a Dish 500.
An experienced installer should know which is the best for your area.

The Dish 1000 is a compromise designed do marginally allow customers to get three satellite locations with one dish.
You will experience lower signal levels and possible signal loss if the Dish 1000 is not PERFECTLY aligned.
Stay with what you have. I started out with a dish 1000, moved to two dishes and am much happier.
You should be receiving both 110 and 119 on the Dish 500, the Dish 300 can be pointed at either 129 or 61.5. 61.5 is more stable with higher signal levels.

Is there any way that I can test this with my current setup of 2 dishes. Ideally, I would like to disable the 61.5 channels and see what channels I lost...

Easiest way is to hook 61.5 only to receiver and do check switch test, then go to guide. All you will see is what you get from 61.5.

how would I go about doing this ? ihave a 500dish hook into a 300 dish then coming into my 622 receiver as one input? If you can tell me what needs to be done, I would really appreciate it...
thanks

Use a connector in place of the switch so only 61.5 is connected, then run switch check. If you are not sure which is 61.5 you can try with each line going into the switch.

Or, you could look at http://ekb./61-5list.htm which lists all the channels on 61.5 and see which you'll loose.
