Consider a UPS for your DVR...

I live along coastal Oregon and the power isn't all that great here. When we have a wind storm, or even on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the power might glitch for a second or two. Of course that puts a big hole in any recording you might be doing on your DVR. And just taking out any sat receiver means that it has to resynch on the sats before you can start watching again.

During a recent wind/ rain storm the power glitched a dozen times one evening.

You might consider a UPS - uninterruptible power supplies - like you would buy for a computer. Office supply stores that sell computers have small ones that work just fine. The DVRs are pretty lightweight compared with computers so the smallest one is probably fine to carry a DVR across a glitch in power service.

I found an online store that carries used / refirbished UPS devices of all sizes. The smallest one is just fine for my 622 DVR. It will only carry the DVR for about 5 minutes, but that's plenty long enough to get me through what happens around here. If the power is going to be out several hours, I'll miss that episode of Eureka. :(

And of course it's a great power conditioner too.

Any recording device used on a regular basis, can benefit greatly with an UPS. Not only for saving data during a recording process, but also in cushioning the hardware from power line fluctuations.
