622 hd recieverhuntermac 11-16-2006, 10:38 AM this thing should have stayed in the closet till they got all the issues resolved. have the fourth one being sent out jim5506 11-16-2006, 01:06 PM Either you are incredibly unlucky or there is something else causing failures. Did all the receiver have similar failures, or was each a different component/system? Is your electrical service clean (free of spikes, noise and voltage drops, etc.)? stchman 11-16-2006, 02:40 PM this thing should have stayed in the closet till they got all the issues resolved. have the fourth one being sent out I have had mine for over 8 months and no physical/mechanical problems. The software updates have improved the glitchiness and now it is rock solid. huntermac 11-23-2006, 09:16 AM 1st.reciever would reboot when ever it felt like 2nd samething 3rd would freeze up we would have to reboot. had our installer back 3 times had someone from dn out 4 times each one changed something eachtime. we had dn over 6 years with perfect reception with only minor lost signal. now we upgraded everything new hd/tv 622,surround vcr/dvd all new.now if a bird takes a leak we lose the signal.what else could be done.now they want to charge me when they come out to get this right jim5506 11-23-2006, 10:52 PM Did the 622 installer properly ground the entire system? I have heard that improper grounding causes many 622 difficulties. rolltidehd 11-24-2006, 07:07 AM Hey you're lucky, dish told me that if the hdmi cable out screws up again that I am SOL because they are not going to send me another one. They told me that they will not send anymore out until the known software issue is solved. They should keep em coming because I'm the guy that has the Platinum Package. Their the fools that cannot resolve the issue. I say all of the above however, other than this particular issue, I do not have any problems with Dish. I think that compared to the cable providers (Comcast, Time Warner etc.) and to Direct TV, Dish has a better package. Anyway, good luck with your 622. bobinchico 11-29-2006, 07:59 PM This seemed like the following thread to post this very informative review of the 622. http://reviews.cnet.com/Dish_Network_ViP622/4505-6474_7-31778299.html rolltidehd 11-30-2006, 10:59 PM Good CNet review of the 622. I agree. Even with the few problems I am having with the 622 I love the way the playback looks. The 5.1 audio has its moments of excellence and all HD football games look fantastic and so does Battlestar Galactica on Universal HD. Please excuse the spelling in my previous thread, it should be they're the fools, not their the fools. Whatever!! huntermac 12-03-2006, 08:02 AM the reviews are good but here we go again #4 in less than a week went to change the channel by putting in the # and low & behold the system locked up this time i was on the second remote when it did it.now they want me to take the hdmi cable off and hook it with componet cable. already had technicians out installer been back seven times since may when we went to the 622. any body have any suggestions Reefmonster 12-03-2006, 11:16 PM HunterMac, Make sure that the next time the technicians come out they check the line of sight for the satellite dish. Seems like a no-brainer, BUT oftentimes the techs don't even check the Dish. I am on my 3rd receiver, (due to to signal loss, rebooting and lockout), and a friend of mine that works for DirectTV saw that my dish was not correctly installed, (pointing right at my palm tree). I pointed it out to the last tech and he just laughed and said that was probably the problem all along. He moved it 3 feet higher on my gable eave and Viola it hasn't happened since even in inclement weather. The VIP622 cannot function without at least a 65% satellite signal. Anything in the way will cause it to lose signal and it will attempt to aquire the signal 50 times before it locks up requiring service even when turned off. Unfortunately, this reciever is the best money can buy at the moment but it is finicky nonetheless. I was thinking about switching back to DTV because this all started happening 2 days after my initial installation, and the first service call took 9 days...not once did any of the 3 techs even look at the dish  ...But DTV doesn't come close to the HD lineup that Dish has so I just gritted my teeth and waited. I am happy I did....It's been 8 months, (and a new 50" Plasma), and we are loving the HD way of life at Dish... Hope that works for ya... Makes me wonder how much training these guys really have. bobinchico 12-04-2006, 03:55 PM "Makes me wonder how much training these guys really have." That comment may be right on. When I upgraded to the 622 from the 942 last Friday I had to show the installer how to scan and set the local OTA channels. He made the comment that Dish doesn't give them any training. Even so, you would think someone, who wanted to be good at what they did, would take some time of their own to learn more. On my previous 942 HD receiver installed last January the installers didn't tune in the satellite for the Voom channels. I went about 10 days before calling Dish and asking them to cancel because I wasn't getting them. We were able to get everything setup over the phone. huntermac 12-04-2006, 06:42 PM thanks, but line of sight is fine getting 75 to 100%.one tech@dn says its a hdmi software issue to disconnect it and run with componet.other tech says they don,t so for now its hooked through the componet cables with a diffent lower quality picture that is noticable.they say they are working on the software issue.but they won't notify anyone when its solved you have to either keep calling or switch cables back and forth to find out.what bs. this is highdefjeff 12-07-2006, 09:06 AM this thing should have stayed in the closet till they got all the issues resolved. have the fourth one being sent out Sounds like you should check electricity. Namely, if you are plugged into a Monster power product, DON'T! Plug directly into the wall to see if that solves your problem. Many times I have bypassed Monster products to resolve service call issues. (Power, splitters, and cables!) Also, check your house wiring... daleb 12-07-2006, 12:32 PM thanks, but line of sight is fine getting 75 to 100%.one tech@dn says its a hdmi software issue to disconnect it and run with componet.other tech says they don,t so for now its hooked through the componet cables with a diffent lower quality picture that is noticable.they say they are working on the software issue.but they won't notify anyone when its solved you have to either keep calling or switch cables back and forth to find out.what bs. this is I run my 622 with components and notice virtually no difference in PQ against HDMI. It is important to have the 622 set at 1080i in the setup menu, not 720p. Even if your display only does 720p. The difference between the 2 settings is very noticeable (to me). | |
