Upgrade 211 to 622???

Hi!

I'm looking to upgrade my relatively new (< 2 months) Vip 211 install to a Vip 622 setup.

The Vip 211 is installed with a single coax coming from the satellite dishes. I'm on HD Gold.

Someone told me about 'DPP', and I confess, I don't know exactly what that's about, but when I go into the diagnostics on the front panel of the 211, item 'g' (I think that's the one) tells me:

"DPP Twin, Twin(1), Twin(2)"

I have two dishes, one (I presume) for the 129/110 sats, and one for the 61.5.

My question is, since the 622 appears to have two coax inputs for the satellite dishes, whether the installer will have to put in a second coax run, or if a 'splitter' can be used (which I've heard about here in relation to other 622 installs). Wondering if the install will be 20 minutes (just the box & a splitter) or longer (running cable, too).

Also, on a more pragmatic note, is the 622 any more problematic than the 211? I've honestly hot had any major problems with the 211 thus far (knocking on wood...).

Thanks!

You may have to jump through many small hoops to get another upgrade within one year, especially if you got the 211 via Home Owners Advantage program (you paid $199 and 18month programming committment).

If you bought the 211, I believe you can just buy a 622, plug it in and have it activated since you have DPP hardware already. The 622 has a seperator (not a splitter) for the two sat inputs to come from one cable.

Well worth the upgrade. The 622 comes with a separator so you won't need to run another peice of coax. From everything I have read the 622 is less problematic than the 211.

They seemd very accommodating on the phone the other day. Mine is a brand-new install, not an upgrade. I've never subscribed to Satellite before.

Other than an issue which I think now is more of a TV issue, I have not had any problems with the 211, other than one day where it would not produce audio. A hard reboot (unplug...) did the trick.

HDMI from day 1, and never a glitch.
