Switching to DirecTV from comcast??

Im considering dropping comcast and getting DirecTV. After several quick power outs, my comcast 6412 with hdmi decided to crap out. I got it swapped yesterday, but the hard drive is clicking every so often. I found out in the San Leandro, CA area that on demand and about 35 channels are not included in my premium package due to my location. A comcast tech who lives in the same city says there will be no more upgrades to the system for a very long time. That SUX. Currently I pay 175 including internet.

So Im considering doing the deed, but having a hard time justifying $200 for the hd dvr upgrade, running extra cable, and dealing with the HOA requirements (painting the cable and dish same color as the exterior). Having 22 more HD channels, about 20 more SD channels and saving $30 a month may have just made it worth it.

Does anyone have info for Comcast upgrades in the San Leandro area?
Should I wait for the Directv dvr to go down in price?
Anyone with comments for Directv in my area?
Im assuming if i pay 200 for the dvr, its mine, is there a hardware warranty with directv dvr or other equipment if it craps out on me?

This is the Dish forum not the DirecTV one........!!

By the way, your HOA CANNOT make you paint the dish and cable, under FCC regulations they cannot do anything which would cause you to do additional work or spend additional money. You can install your dishes (however many you want) where you want, how you want and in the color they are delivered from the manufacturer. Any HOA rules that contradict the FCC regulations are null and void.

You might like to look at this web page http://www.condolawyers.com/articles/fcc.htm for an HOA lawyer's view. It also has a link to the FCC regulations.
