okay i have the DP811 with the 10 dollar hd package
i want to get local HD channels from dish
will they make me switch boxes?

The 811 has a built in ATSC tuner so you can hook up an antenna and get HD locals. Since DISH uses mpeg4 for HD locals then yes you would have to get a new box for DISH supplied HD locals. I recommend you get either the 211 or 622 to get all the HD channels.

i was trying to avoid that because the tv is in the basement and its gunna be hard to face the antenna at 54 degrees.
