I need advice, but first my vitals:
Equipment:
TV/tuner: VIZIO Model L37 with built in tuner.
Antenna: Phillips indoor Model MANT510 with built in 35dB amp
Six feet of RG59 Coaxial cable from antenna to HDTV input on TV
Location for future Antenna: Roof of my single story home in Lebanon, OH 45036-9628
39degrees 25min 30.29sec N, 84degrees 11min 15.48sec W, Altitude at base of house 764 ft, height of antenna base on roof is 15+ feet above ground. The closest structure is a two-story house 100 yards directly south. There are trees in the area but nothing closer than 100 feet and only directly west and directly south all about 30 feet tall.

I’m trying to decide what kind of Antenna to put up. If I need a rotator, preamp, etc. I’ve seen a package deal “COMBO PAK #3” at www.warrenelectronics.com/antennas/combos.htm (http://www.warrenelectronics.com/antennas/combos.htm;) it has a CM4228 antenna, a CM7777 pre-amplifier, and a 9521A Channel Master remote rotator, plus I believe everything else required to safely put the antenna on the roof. I’m wondering if it would be overkill because this seems to be part of Tigerbangs prescription for deep fringe reception. The indoor antenna is getting channels 2, 5, 7, and 22 well; 14, 16, and 45 so-so; 9 and 26 not at all. I’m also wondering if there are any benefits to ganging indoor antennas until I get the outdoor one up. Has anyone tried this? Any advice would be appreciated. A local place to buy equipment in the Dayton-Cincinnati area or a cheaper place than Warrens Electronics would be nice.

Thank you for your time,

I would shoot for the Dayton/Springfield stations at 355/356 degrees, all the networks are there and all are at least blue, so a CM4228 alone should do you. If you're getting most on rabbit ears, the 4228 should do fine. Only 1 VHF in the whole bunch at channel 10 but that happens to be one of the channels the 4228 does best with.

FCC says that WBDT is only broadcasting digital at 35 KW on ch 18. That is extremely low power. Ganging indoor antennas will probably not work because the signals will interfere with each other. Ch 9 is a VHF station, but the CM4228 has it's best gain at ch 10. So the CM 4228 is a good bet. Call your local electronics store and also Radio Shack and ask if they have a CM 4228, (I bought my CM 4228 at a Radio Shack). I would probably spring for a rotator and a CM 4228, but not a preamp, yet.

if you need a preamp suggest a winegard hdp269 with the cm4228. The cm7777 will overload at 20 miles and is not suggested.

If you desire the vhf analog channels ch.2, 5, 7 till the transition in 2009, suggest the winegard hd7082P combo vhf/uhf antenna with the hdp269 mentioned above.

I pick up Ch. 9 (actual frequency 10) fine with a CM4228 here in Anderson Tnsp. I'll bet if you put that on a rotator you'll be pleased. There's a place on the ChannelMaster website button for dealers located in Dayton, but they wanted $70 for the CM4228 when I called months ago. I've been very satisfied with warrenelectronics for mail order myself. FWIW...
