Sonny JJ 05-26-2006, 07:18 AM Recently upgraded to HD and had the ViP622 installed. After one day of HDMI interface, the screen went blank. I had read on this forum of the 622 problem and switched to component. Since my receiver was new, I called Dish tech support and was told that it is an ongoing known problem for which there is no resolution at present. The tech went on to say that Dish is looking for a software solution to the problem. I was not offered a replacement.
Can this type of failure truly be corrected via a software patch? Or, is this a hardware problem that Dish is putting off resolving until they can offer a new and improved DVR receiver at a modest upgrade cost of a few hundred dollars?
It would be interesting to know what percentage of 622’s fail. More than 50%?

My 622 has been hooked up to my HDTV via HDMI since I got it. Works fine.
eHDMI 05-26-2006, 11:48 PM Sonny, simply reset your 622 box. I had the same issue. DISH had no idea how to fix it. I simply reset the box, let it cycle ALL THE WAY through and BAM...it was fixed.

When in doubt, cycle power. I like to unplug then plug back in to effect a reset.
Allin4greeN 05-27-2006, 05:27 PM ...It would be interesting to know what percentage of 622’s fail. More than 50%?From this poll (http://www./showthread.php?t=57502) on a different forum, it would appear that it's 1/4 of the 622 units out there...
It's a small sample size (N=72) but, it gives a baseline...

Thanks for trying. Did as you suggested. No change. I guess I'll just need to wait for the Dish solution.
pm67022 06-04-2006, 02:11 PM I had a problem this morning with my VIP 622 HDMI, DN said it was a software issue and they would push down a fix. I asked when this would take place, they said there is no time frame that they could promise. It could be in the next few minutes OR possibly (worst case) there would be no fix. What is that all about? What customer service!!!
dishguy 06-06-2006, 11:02 PM do you have the hdmi cable that dish gave you?
if so get a new one, I have had about 20 percent come out of the box and not work or go bad.
pm67022 06-07-2006, 06:11 PM I know it's not the cable because I tested it with the HD receiver from the bedroom, that receiver worked fine with the cable. Any ideas or help would be apprciated.

DISH does not give HDMI cables with a 622, at least not with mine. I had to go buy one.
Sonny JJ 06-08-2006, 10:35 AM I also did not receive a HDMI cable with the box.
Since I last posted, the thread gave me enough input that I called DN and requested a new box pointing out that the failure rate was less than 50%. Received and installing on Friday.
Maybe they'll fix the problem if enough of us do the same.
billtvt 06-09-2006, 07:46 AM I too have had a problem with my DVI interface. I got my 622 a couple of months ago, for the first 2 weeks it worked flawlessly using the HDMI/DVI adapter for my Pioneer RPTV which uses DVI. Then, suddenly it stopped working. I did a re-boot, and it worked again, but only for a day. Nothing after that, reset, unplug etc would bring back the picture. I spent an hour on the phone two times with 2 different and seemingly knowledgeable reps from Dish. Both told me that it is a software issue that they are working on but had no idea of when a fix would occur. I am using component now and everything works fine, but I'd prefer the DVI connection as I am short on imputs for other components.
They did say that this was limited to a certain number of brands and sets...
Bill T
Pioneer 530HD RPTV
dish 622 vip
Motorola DSR922 4DTV
Motorola HDD200
Integra 7.2 AVR
Oppo DVD player

What do you mean "The Screen Went Blank" What is the problem you are talking about, I have a 622. Thanks.
pm67022 06-10-2006, 06:56 AM I had the exact same problem as Biltvt (using an HDMI to DVI cable). I called DN a second time with a local DishNetwork installer on the line as well. The tech for DN said they had no pending software downloads for this receiver and that it must be a problem with the receiver. They were glad to replace it. A much different story than the first time I called. I know it wasn't the cable setup because I have another receiver in my bedroom that we hooked up to the TV using the same cable. Everything worked fine with that receiver.
Toasted 06-12-2006, 12:25 PM I had the exact same experience with the vip 622 hdmi failure. I have ordered a new vip622 and intending to install it 6-13-06.
Dish told me also that this was a known problem with no solution when I first reported it. I decided to speak to a second person at Dish, and am now told it is not a known problem! Ha. We will see.
Sonny JJ 06-18-2006, 12:21 PM Received a new 622 from DN. Installed it on 6/09. HDMI is working, 9 days and counting. I've got my fingers crossed.
My wife says she can see the difference from component, just a bit sharper definition object to object.
shengwen 06-20-2006, 04:57 PM I have the same problem. My HDMI connection from the HD DVR 622 just went dead this morning, after working properly for 9 days. Called DN and was told that a replacement will be sent to me in 2 days.
Arkie66 06-21-2006, 11:00 AM No HDMI with the original 622, but they are sending a set of comp cables since I complained about having to buy a HDMI cable that no longer worked. If they don't find a fix for the problem pretty soon I'm going to insist on a new 622.
