just discovered this forum, hello everyone..:hithere:

I just upgraded to the 622 and am a little dissapointed.

I am using the component video as input to my Hitachi Plasma.
the Hi Def is great, but the picture quality on the regular channels
blows. My wife says it "looks like there is plastic over the TV."

On my old 522 i would watch everything in 4:3 expanded setting on the TV. Now the TV is locking to 16:9 from the receiver.

My solution was to use the composite output on the box to a different input on the TV. Connected it up and it seemed OK, but every hour or two the picture will "jitter" or "jiggle" for several minutes. It does not do this on the component connections input.

Anything else to try, or is this a problem with the box ? It also happens with the S-Video connection out.

Fortunately, that has not been a issue for me. Have you tried resetting your box? Alot of times that can be a quick fix.

PQ will look horrible after you watch HD. I just watch the hd channels.
You can;t get hd on composite output. I find that sd looks the best on hdmi just not as good as hd on hdmi. I would recommend you just live the the poor sd and enjoy full hd with a hdmi cable , especially the sound on hdmi really makes the analog input suck.

Well, when i watch HD, I switch to to the component input on the TV.
for SD i switch over to the composite or S-video but it has that problem.

I think im screwed with the hdmi, my TV has component,composite,s-video and 2 RGB(<- not sure what these are) inputs.
One rgb input is analog, the other is digital

one looks like a 15 pin monitor type connection (analog)
one looks like 3 rows of pins, ~24 connections (digital)

Could be computer hookups.

Could be computer hookups.

after digging around and looking at different cables on the web,
it appears one is a DVI connection. although my tv labels it as RGB2.

I bought a dvi/hdmi cable and will try it out, but my confidence is low

That rgb2 is for a pc, it is different from DVI for TV

Dave;

Get a hdmi to dvi cable. This will give you video only! You will still need a audio/video receiver, that has digital audio input( optical), coming from the 622 to the receiver, and you should be good to go!

The 15 pin connector allows you to use your tv as a computer monitor. That's what I do in the living room, and the picture quality is excellent!

I use a 50" plasma, with a wireless keyboard and mouse!

Are you also using two different TV1 outputs from your receiver to your TV. Its a little cumbersome having to switch inputs when going from SD to HD viewing but the picture quality is definitely better
when my tv dos the strech.

So i can use this connection? My gut reaction from dirtydansv's post was i couldnt.

My tv RGB2 input has rca connections for audio, so I can just split off the audio from the RCA set on the receiver. In fact i have it set up this way now for my second TV input.

Currently im set up like this On my TV:
Input 1: Y/G/B, RCA Audio, from Receiver TV1 out, for HD veiwing
Input 2: S-Video, RCA Audio, from Receiver TV1out, for SD veiwing

The RCA Audio is split coming out of the receiver.

I am hoping to do away with all this and just use the DVI/HDMI with audio to my RGB2 input on the TV. Ill give it a shot, but ive been reading here alot of people are having problems with the HDMI output
on the 622
