and now the buyer wants a refund. He said he called Dish Network and the only way to get 'HD' is with a 211. I'm pretty sure Dish is lying to him in order to promote their new line of receivers. I was using the 811 with my old dish and even with my newest dish(Dish 1000). There are thousands still out there that haven't upgraded and will not upgrade until it is mandatory(when will it be mandatory?). The old HD channels will still continue to broadcast as well as the SD broadcasts in MPEG2.

I am refunding the money but do not believe I have to. The receiver works and Dish should activate it.

Actually you are wrong. Dish will not activate HD on new accounts unless it is a new receiver. The packages you had on this 811 would still be intact FOR YOU. The only way for new customer to get would be to add the receiver onto account with HD package already active.

So what kind of disclaimer do I need to add to my auction to prevent against this?

The 811's do work with all the dishes and the new DISH HD packages. But I guess I kind of see where they are coming from. You would pay for a new DISH HD package and wouldn't be able to view the VOOM channels and ESPN2HD, etc. However, I think the old HD package should still be available. Thousands are still using their 811's with the same HD package. Its cheaper that way.

I think I'll put in the auction....

"It is the buyer's responsibility to contact Dish Network for activation information prior to placing a bid" or something along those lines.

Would an 811 work just as a OTA digital reciever or would you have to pay the 5 bucks a month to keep it active?

I had an 811 hooked up before my 622 (2nd one, a replacement) was activated, and it received HD OTA channels just fine, even though Dish HD was disabled.

My understanding is the newer receivers (622, etc.) will not even process OTA HD channels if your Dish HD programming is not turned on.
