Can anyone verify that the local Sacramento HD channels are now being broadcast thru Dish? I just checked DISH's website and they say that ABC, CBS, NBC, WB are now in HD.

Thanks much

Yes - ABC, CBS, NBC and WB are in HD in Sacramento, but no FOX. Been on for a while now.

ABC - 6395
CBS - 6396
NBC - 6397
WB - 6399

Hopefully FOX will fill the gap at 6398?? :)

I had a look at the program guide on DISH's site, and they don't even list the local HD channels yet!!

I can get those channels in Sacramento (6395 etc), but are they really HD or just digital? On the regular channels (3, 10, 13) there are occasionally HD broadcasts, but not regularly. Maybe I am missing something?

All DISH programming is digital.

Yes, they will show HD content when available. The signal is always digital, but not all shows are in HD format. Mainly during prime time will you see the HD content. If a show is being broadcast in HD you will see the difference.

You might want to check out titantv.com and configure it for your area. The guide will tell you when a show is being broadcast in HD.

I was ready to upgrade to get locals in HD (I currently don't have the HD receiver) and was told over the phone that they only have the WB in HD in this area. It shouldn't matter that I am in Folsom, right? I mean, the satellite signal is the same for all subscribers in Sacramento County, right?

I live in Natomas and I get NBC, ABC, CBS and WB. I also get FOX thru the OTA tuner.

And do I really need their HD receiver, if I already have the HD tuner built into my TV? Is there any way to just pay to have the local HD programming turned on and then watch it without upgrading receivers?

If you can get HD OTA then it probably isn't necessary to upgrade. You can get locals through your older receiver w/o the HD. I live up in Calaveras and can get pretty good HD OTA but I still sub to the locals and get HD with my Plat package. I am hoping they get the Fox station soon because right now I get all but that one. Good luck
