622 problems have begun

:(

Hi All,

Well, I have been a happy camper w/622 since my install on 4-22 until now....

The hd channels for which I traded in my 921 - 622 are virtually unwatchable. Yes, this is because of sat 129. During the last week it has grown progressively worse, to where I cannot watch that voom stuff...(yes, I like Voom! - Rave - Rush )....so, the tech is coming this Sat to re peak the dish...I am thinking of giving it a try myself. My 129 reception was in the 50's..and that would be ok...but now it fluctuates between zip and 41..not good..

I thought I had by passed all the 622 problems...and maybe this really isn't a 622 problem...although it froze up on the history channel, and I had to do a hard boot to fix that....not normal

Does anyone have dish adjustment advice? I am aware of the correct numbers, via the point dish screen....but, I think everything is where it is supposed to be.....is there a special "trick"...a la taking a hammer and randomly striking it??

Thanks

CM

What's your signal strength??
IF it is a lot different ACROSS ALL satellites than when it was first installed, then yes, the dish may have moved.
In that case it needs to be aligned by an installer who knows what he is doing. Or a homeowner, with the same knowledge.

If only ONE sat is a lot weaker in strength, a bad cable connection (more rare) can do the same thing. Might not hurt to climb up there (safely) and make sure all connections from cables to switches, etc. are secure. Don't go cranking away on them with a wrench!

Instead, take a very small wrench and turn lightly and slowly. If it feels tight, then leave it alone. It's possible one is not fully seated. It has happened to me..but only once in the 8 years I've had Dish. It kept losing a signal then reconnecting.
Keep hammers away...

Of course, check the connections at the back of your receiver, and also the grounding block where the cables enter the house.
Hope this helps...if not call Dish to have the installer back.

Thanks Daleb,

I will borrow a tall ladder and just have a look today after work....all my connections on my rack are sound. As you probably know, I am about 3 + hours from you...so it's not much use asking you what your 129 strength is....And yes, the signal strength on 110-119 is around 60...it used to be around 100....I am thinking the guy left too soon, as I had to go that day....he did not try to position the dish after he installed it, and I wound up doing a hard boot to get the info to download well after he left.....

So we will see how it goes Sat...when the tech comes back out. I did think he was very professional, and knew what he was doing...it is my fault that I had to go before the install was complete.

Thanks for your response. I'll post Sat night!

One connection dropping all signal strengths, ...unlikely..sounds more like the dish moved. Good luck with that, let us know! I'm sure he'll have you back up in no time. I went the 2 dish route, cman...so far so good.

Sounds like your dish has moved slightly. I seriously doubt it is a bad connection. You dont want to go back to the 500, you need the 1000 to get the other channels.

I think he meant 2 500's? IF you can get 61.5, it's usually a stronger signal anyway than 129.

As I said, if ALL signals dropped, then it is very likely the Dish position.
