I've heard this is their Oldest satelite and should be taken down. Are there plans to remove this bird?If so,when?

My own personal experience with the infamous 129 satelite started when I got my 211 receiver activated and my Dish 1000 installed.Apparently myself and other customers of Dish network in my area get very low signal strength from the 129.Ranging from 20 to 60. HD locals lose picture 90 per cent of the time.
Recap on my posting. Is Dish going to get rid of the 129 and move the local HD channels to another bird ? I'm considering getting my locals back with Adelphia Cable.

If I am not mistaken, the 129 satellite has all the VOOM HD stuff and Universal HD and ESPN2 HD. I gather that DISH would just put a new 129 satellite up.

Why did they put the local HD channels -that are in los Angeles- on a bird that gives such low signal strength for my area. Also, what puzzles me is all my Voom channels come out great and Voom is on 129..there's never an interruption with signal strenth.

When i got my 211 and Dish 1000 the installer said people on both coasts (especially West coast) have problems with the 129. Not having any problems here in the Midwest.

I live in the MidWest myself and have no problems with signal strength.

hey there, i am a newbie to this place, but hopefully this will help some people......

i got sat's 110,119, and 129....i do get lower signal strength from 129, but it still holds around 108-109......i was told all of my new hd channels (voom, espn2, unihd) all come from 129 and my locals come from 110......dont know how this may help people, but that is my $.02

oh yeah, i am in middle TN

Seems as though here in the MidWest we get good siganl strength from 129.

Last night's tech chat discussed the 129 bird and it's weaker signal, relative to other sats. Some areas of the country are more susceptible to reception problems than others.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they eventually move all HD off of 129 and 61.5 to a new bird, and make us get new dishes and LNB's to receive HD programming.

Just my $.02 and certainly not factual...

And replace all the new dish 1000's. That dish is designed for 110, 119, and 129. It would not work right at 61.5, 110,and 119.
61.5 is not real strong either.

I haven't had any problems with, nor read any posts regarding problems with signal strength on 61.5. Certainly possible, I guess...

What I was suggesting isn't a second dish for those with a D1000 either, as picking up 110, 119, and 61.5 on one dish would be impossible without a dish so large I'd need an engineering degree to calculate the size... No, I was thinking more along the lines of a new bird in the sky located somewhere between 110 and 119 (pretend it's 118.7), and an all new one dish solution for everyone ;)

I just wanted to throw in my experiences. I am in Calif and I have a D1000. It took 3 separate visits to get me a decent signal and I still am in the low 60s for tsp 8 on 129 (locals HD). My other transponders also are low, but 8 is the worst. My signal drops at about 45, which is where it occasionally goes with heavy cloud cover and rain. Hopefully they can get something better in the sky for my LA locals. I just think it is a little unfait that a lot of the other new Calif HD markets get their channels on the new 110 sat. Who knows, maybe they will send LAs locals over to 110 too (:) sarcastically!!).

About a month before DN said it would have my locals in HD in LOs Angeles..I decided to cancel my locals in HD on cable-whnich I had in addition to Dish Network.BIG MISTAKE. Adelphia's HD Locals were FANTASTIC ..sharp picture...no problems..cost me about $20.00 a month in addition to having Dish Network....Am thinking about getting my locals from cable again in HD...
