dude2 05-07-2006, 05:38 PM There is a live tech chat scheduled for tomorrow eve (monday) at 8pm on channel 101. Should give us all info on HD and what is coming.
Get you questions for dish emailed to them or call live on the chat as I would guess all hd subs will want to watch.
Dave.

I hope DISH tells me they are expanding they're HD lineup. They need to get CinemaxHD, StarzHD, FSNHD, OLNHD, InHD. The FSNHD is a big one for me.
ianhiding 05-08-2006, 01:26 PM What is InHD? I seem to remember Charlie saying something about StarzHD being added sometimes this year. And I also think HGHD.
gjh3260 05-08-2006, 03:36 PM FSN HD would be great. Home and Garden would be great in HD too. I think HG went Hi Def sometime last month.
pioneer863 05-08-2006, 04:03 PM I Would like to know why 129 signal strength is so low compared to the others 119, 110 and what they can do about it? I have no obstructions in my area and can only get 70 to 80%
wal-dog 05-08-2006, 04:57 PM What is InHD? I seem to remember Charlie saying something about StarzHD being added sometimes this year. And I also think HGHD.
INHD1 and INHD2 are currently offered by Comcast. They show MLB games, movies, nature shows, etc...
dude2 05-08-2006, 05:31 PM I talked to a tech today at dish that said 129 signals are weaker and anything in the 70% range is super. I get about 85% on transponder 11 12 13 on a good day and no lower than 68% on any of them.
His response was my tech did a super job of peaking in the dish 1000.
According to him anyone on the east coast has to get a separate dish for the 129 channels as the 1000 just doens;t make it.
I can;t guarantee he knows what he is talking about, but have your portable phone right by your side and as soon as they post the call in phone number, dial it and get in right away with your question. If they like it they will put you on hold until needed. Dave.
8pm is cst so adjust accordingly.
dude2 05-08-2006, 09:46 PM Curious about your pq on the tech chat.
Here is what my tv looked like. Tech chat live video like old vhs, and the rocket video was terrible, blurry. Why can;t they upgrade their equipment so the picture is good.
even on my old 36 in crt tv the chat was not good video and the presentations were bad, and now after watching hd most of the time it looked terrible. this was on a 51 inch tv i watched it on.
pioneer863 05-08-2006, 10:16 PM hey dude, it looked like crap on mine too. after watching ESPN HD and other HD stuff I have to rub my eyes when this stuff comes on.

This post was completely off topic!! Why would you bring this question up when people are talking about what new HD programing may be coming?
dude2 05-09-2006, 07:41 AM What do mean by off topic, I didn;t hear anything on the chat about new hd programing. All it was about the rocket and sat X and afew questions being addressed. Non on new programing.

Post was dealing with previous post reguarding low signal strenth on 129. Read the quote.
stchman 05-09-2006, 12:24 PM This post was completely off topic!! Why would you bring this question up when people are talking about what new HD programing may be coming?
The name of the thread is "tech chat", not "future HD programming". Sat signal strength is just as valid a technical question as future HD programming.
pioneer863 05-09-2006, 04:45 PM LOL hey that was funny your post was the first (off-topic by the way) how is criticizing me on tech-chat have anything to do with tech stuff???
last time I checked the post was called Tech Chat can you do the math on that one????
tech talk covers lots of areas we don't need you to be our thread cop...
thanks guys!!!!
dude2 05-09-2006, 07:10 PM Yes and one of the techs was asked last night on the chat about sat 129's weak siginal and he responded like a typical congressman and talked around it. "Basicaly said if you are getting a signal strength of 40 or more not to worry.
The moderator even corrected him in saying the that is a verylow siginal for a modern bird and he just kept quiet. Must be a hush hush deal.
Anyway they spent much time with the preparation of the new 110 bird and how the spot beams work and how they can get 130+ transponders out of it by over lapping siginals, showing terrible blury photos of the preparation of a bird to go up and then answering emails and telephone calls.
If you would have know who invented wobulation and what tv company is strongly into it you could have won a small portable tv that downloads from the 622.

After rereading it, it was not as off topic as it first seemed to me the first time I read it. The thread starter was about what questions to ask on tech-chat so in that respect it was not off topic. There were 3 consecutive post about programing so your post seemed off topic to me.
pioneer863 05-09-2006, 07:51 PM thanks for the post Dude2 great to know a little more about 129 there was a thunderstorm in my area and I lost the show so i missed most of it..
Sorry wal-dog about the post but it p-eed me off a little bit...
Have a great day!!!!

I apologize as well. I'll tear up your ticket.
dude2 05-11-2006, 10:53 AM There is a Charlie Chat Scheduled for early june. Will post as soon as I know.
Hopefully we can find out more about HD programing and anything else.
For me the charlie chats seem to be more valuable than the tech chats. Watching 1/2 hour of very blury photos of getting the new 110 bird ready and up was quite boreing imho.
Dave.
pioneer863 05-11-2006, 04:01 PM Thanks Dave I hope some time soon there will be some more HD stuff + I would like to know if anything is broadcast in 720P? I know that HDNet only does 1080i but not sure about the other channels my box is set to 720P. I have noticed that most of the HD channels are 1080i including my locals but there is no way for me to check...

I have noticed that most of the HD channels are 1080i including my locals but there is no way for me to check...Here are a few resources that you can use for reviewing broadcast resolutions and bitrates for E* channels...
DishHD (http://www./bfg/dish-hd.htm)
Dish Network resolutions and bitrates (http://home.bigsandybb.com/gmurrell/bitrate.html)
Ultimately, the STB setting that looks best in your particular set-up (720p or 1080i) is all that matters. This is most often related to not only the broadcast resolution of the source but, also the native resolution of your HDTV and quality of the electronics in your HDTV and STB. Try different settings/connections and see what looks best in your situation, have fun!

You can go to each programs website. As far as cable/sat channels most are 1080i. ESPN is 720p.

dude2 05-11-2006, 06:54 PM If you guys really want to know how good you hd set is and which setting works best 780 or 1080 record the test patteren on HD net.
It comes on at different times. Anyway the first part is just color charts, then a convergence screen, and then the good one a resolution screen. Record it and you can use it anytime you want.
Put you setting on 720 and look at the lines for both horizontal and vertical. Change setting in receiver to 1080 i and see which resolution chart you can see the most lines on before they turn into a blur.
According to the lead tech on the fourm he said that 1080 i is for the best possible picture they offer and if it works on your set use it.
I know my set is progressive scan with 1080i native so I can see up to the 10 marking meaning 1000 lines in both vertical and horizontal.
Now for the ultimate test. over on the right side of the test screen is a sentence that goes down with each line getting smaller. If you can read the last line you have one hell of a set. I will not tell you what it says, but if you can read all lines and be 1st to post it here we will give you a day long title of super set king or queen.
Dave.
I can read it so I know what it says and it will be a reward to you if you can read the entire sentence. The last line will be the hardest.

Ummm... yup... It's usually on at 6am EST on HDNET, channel 9422. I've used the test patterns to "eyeball" my settings...
This (http://www.smartcalibration.com/hdnetpatterns.html) may be of interest to you if you're using the HDNET test patterns...
