A poor joint can change the impedance of the cable restricting signal etc. They showed a photo of two cables, one that was made up by one of the ebay suppliers and one on a samsung pro cable. The ebay cable had two cold joints on the hdmi cable and the samsung had beautiful flow soldered joints. Also they mentioned that using audio cables for component inputs is not good as they are not 75 ohm and will loose signal. A true video cable needs to be 75 ohm. Otherwise the 100 dollar hdmi and the 30 dollar will probably be equal. HDMI is $99.97. dude2 05-08-2006, 06:08 AM Too much for my blood. The 30 dollar phillips ones are working just fine for me. gjh3260 05-08-2006, 12:21 PM check out monoprice.com HDMI cables are even cheaper there jim5506 05-08-2006, 12:30 PM The nice thing about digital communication is that quality is not an issue - either you get the data and it is usable or you get garbage. stchman 05-08-2006, 03:12 PM I read an article on another hd site that the most important thing about cables is the quality of the solder joints at the cable to connector end. The 30 dollar phillips ones are working just fine for me. Just bought one of these myself, a 6 footer. Works great! dude2 05-08-2006, 05:19 PM Go to the high definition blog and check on cables and check out the article. It will show you photos of 2 cables, one a pro cable with outer shield removed and one a handmade one for some cable dealer. You will see solder on both but a way different quality in the connections. stchman 05-09-2006, 02:08 PM Go to the high definition blog and check on cables and check out the article. Thankshere it is http://www.highdefinitionblog.com/?page_id=133 There are a couple of esoteric but important things to keep in mind --they have been discussed here and possibly on his blog also - since Rbinck is the moderator here- 1) RCA plugs and Jacks are about 30 ohms - not 75 ohms as is the cable used for Component Video - so as other articles often mention - the RCA Connectors - on the device as well as the cables - no matter who makes them or the cable - are the primary source of mismatch and the related problems with component video cables - this wasn't a problem when the early implementations used BNC connectors on both ends of the analog video connections. 2) For audio cable it is often recommended that the shield (shell/ground) not be carried thru at one end of the cable - and that the separate common grounding buss wire that connects the chassis ground of all the equipment provide the ground interconnect - one end of the cable is grounded to provide the shielding ground - but when separate parallel shield grounds connect diverse pieces of equipment - ground loops and 60~ interference will often occur because of it. starfleet 05-17-2006, 10:08 PM check out monoprice.com HDMI cables are even cheaper there Thanks for posting, I just went to the site and bought a 3 ft HDMI & 3ft Optical cable both for $11.99 including shipping. techfan 05-17-2006, 11:31 PM All the best audio sites recommend this site... i have used it, its awesome... cheap and WELL constructed http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ daleb 05-18-2006, 09:19 AM All the best audio sites recommend this site... i have used it, its awesome... cheap and WELL constructed http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ No where as cheap as monoprice.com.. and for digital cables it is not that critical. In fact, BJC only manufactures analog cables (well, digital coax too). But I could not agree more on their quality and customer service. About the most anyone needs to pay for quality cables, but I think you do get your money's worth. | |
