Why are CRTs not being sold anymore?

I've been looking to buy a CRT online, and Bestbuy, Circuit City, Inoax.com . . .ect. are not selling as many as they did before. I only found a couple on each site, and they were usually the store-exclusive brands like "Insignia". Why is this? Last year they had many, many more. Are they slowly getting rid of the CRT? And if they are, why?

Please Reply.

they are starting to be replaced by other technologies. other technologies are getting to be easier and cheaper to make. these companies want us to get bigger screen sizes also. then there is the bulb theory i got. as long as we own one of these bigger tvs we they are making money off those replacement bulbs. that is more money they are making off us and we already bought the tv. also convience wise bigger, thinner, and lighter tvs are alot better for the consumer.

little advise if that is what you are looking for. go to b.b. they still sell crt tvs. only look at sony crts. all the other brands are starting to outsource there work. meaning they are being built in factories that may not be up to the standard you might be used to from good brands. toshiba and samsung are making horriable crts now. im not saying every tv they make is bad but there have been alot more people having problems with both brands lately. sony makes a great quality crt and to many the best picture by far. sony is about to release a new model crt. it may even be already out. check there website. its the only crt they have available. walmart sell a few crt tvs. they are lower quality brands though. buying a crt online is not a good idea. they are so heavy the shipping usualy makes up for the difference you might have thought you were saving.

I think its because of production cost. They can sell LCD screens, which are cheaper to make and they make more money selling them. They are lighter and easier to place anywhere.
Thanks

CRT manufacturing requires more space on the production floor, more room in the warehouse, fragile components, lots of hand assembly and adjustment, plus they are difficult and expensive to ship (because of size and weight) and are prone to damage and misalignment in shipping.

If it wasn't for the fact that the technology is so mature that it's cheap and that it still produces the best picture for the screen size and price, nobody would be building CRT's and, as other display technology gets better and cheaper, CRT's are pretty much going to disappear.

I pretty much agree with everything that has been said but I also think/hope that it may be possible for CRTs to make a comeback in 2007 and 2008. Since the PS3, HD-DVD, and Blu-Ray all support 1080i/p standards, I think the need for affordable 1080i displays will become more apparent, and I hope someone will step up to the plate to address this issue.

Having a new consumer standard in place with no actual displays with the same native resolution seems ridiculous to me. But maybe that's just the crazy world we live in.

True. I will be buying an Xbox 360 soon, and it's native is 720p. But I'm leaning more towards CRTs because of price and picture. But CRTs native is 1080i. Does anyone know if the Xbox 360 looks better on a CRT than an LCD?

I have a 360 and a 30inch widescreen crt. It looks fantabulous. I also have an lcd but it does not move as smoothly as the crt. Slight ghosting issues with a 26 sony lcd. I have seen the lcd's in the store and for the time being crt looks way better. However, I do use the lcd sometimes because you dont get as tired looking at it. Remember CRT's flicker and that flicker tires your brain. LCD's do not, but they have weaker colors, weaker black level, and are subject to ghosting when there is fast animation on the screen. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I'm an early adopter and invested in a 65" Tosh bock in Oct 2000. I had it properly ISF'd and get regular tuneups (convergence drifts abit over the years). Its a big Ugly box but its ina dedicated room and provides an awsome picture.

A couple of months ago I was lucky to find a 30" Panny CRT with HDMI for $940 everythin included in Toronto.

I wonder if it would be possible to switch the 7' guns to 9"rs in the Tosh. If so it would be awsome.

My Brother has the Sony Ruby front PJ which gives a great picture and is around $10,000, but since I use mine as a PC monitor as well the relacement costs of $1000.00 a Bulb would be impracticle for my kind of use.

Maybe next years Lazervision products will be the answer.

Yeah I am glad I bought my Sony 34 inch CRT HDTV when I did... Once I did it, a few weeks later the store got rid of it. Got it for 1300 new when its retail then was 1800 :)

Amazing TV and I'm mad the HD CRT's are going away.. and only buy a sony crt as said before...

Sorry for owning the worst digital camera ever, but, this is the TV
