What happened to 34" crt's?

Just a simple question for all you fellow cathode ray lovers. I am trying to buy a new 34 incher and I can't seem to find any on the market, other than the Toshiblow's. Sony shows their new 34" model on their site, but it is not shipping yet. Is that really all we have to choose from? One model. I haven't seen a Panasonic on sale anywhere. I just figured I would bounce this off of everyone. Does anyone know what the deal is? Circuit city, Best Buy, Tweeter, and Crutchfield have zero to choose from. Are we at the end of our proverbial rope? I am conflicted in my choice of CRT or LCD at this point. What do I do?

yeah, as prices come down, and technology in the flat screens gets better, tubes are going the way of the Dodo bird. I know Samsung is releasing a Dynaflat 32 incher soon, but that is not a full size tube. Why not go for a new tech? CRTs are heavy!!!! My parents 34 inch Sony is like 250 pounds or something. It was ridiculous lifting that thing. I have the 30 inch samsung and its great, but its really thin for a tube, so its not that bad.

I can't imagine we will have 34" CRT's available too many more years. I do love the Sony KD-34XBR960 and if you can find one now at a closeout price and have the room for that thing and the patience to get it adjusted properly, it would be my recommendation but act quickly.

What do I do?Try this: Zenith 34" DV CRT (http://www.zenith.com/index.asp?url=./sub_prod/subCategory_Display.asp%3Fcat%3D46)

I have one, and it's not bad. It's not as good as a Sony, but the picture quality is excellent, especially with HD sources.

I also have a Zenith, an older model 34", but basically the same one as CatManDoo has. I also am very pleased with it.

Just for kicks, I called the store (Gochnauer's/East Petersburg, PA) on Saturday where I bought mine and they no longer carry Zenith. In fact, they're getting out of the TV biz completely. I didn't ask why, but I assume it's because TV's have become so complicated compared to the old days when people bought "consoles" based on the look of the cabinet. What shocked me is that I just looked at BB and CC websites, and NEITHER ONE lists ANY Sony 34" CRT. When I was researching mine, one store warned me that these things would become extinct in the not too distant future, but I had no idea it would happen so soon. At the time, I thought they were trying to push me towards a more expensive plasma with scare tactics, but now it looks like they were on the up-and-up. Maybe we are near the end of the proverbial rope, as ardvark says. It's just such a shame CRT's have to be so big and bulky, because as you well know, the quality of the picture is fantastic. I've heard that SED sets (when available) will make us forget all about CRT's, but until then, we'll live with the time-tested, old reliable technology that's done well for the last 50+ years.

Unfortuantly, 34" CRT's are done like toast...

Sony, Panasonic and the likes have stopped production.

TOshibas final; models will be out soon.

This is due to the weight, cost of making and selling.

Too bad because LCD's just don't have the longevity...hmmm...maybe they are smart

Actually Sony recently introduced a new 34" CRT model: viz. KD-34XBR970.

I just walked into a Sony store that normally would have 5 to 6 CRT SD and HDTV models always on display. Yesterday they revamped their layout and had no CRTs of any kind on display.
